    Cowboys to play in South Alabama Coca Cola Classic

    McNeese State (8-10) will take part in the three day South Alabama Coca Cola Classic beginning Friday in Mobile. The Cowboys will tackle Ohio State (3-6) on Friday, Winthrop (6-5) on Saturday and South Alabama (3-8) on Sunday. McNeese is coming off a 1-2 showing in its own Cox Communication/Lake Area Classic, the Cowboys dropping a pair of one run games to Oklahoma State and Southern Miss while beating Indiana State. After the South Alabama tournament the Cowboys will open Southland Conference action, tackling Nicholls State on the road March 19-21.

    COWBOY INJURIES: Freshman infielder Chris Buchholz is still out with an ankle injury.

    HITTING STREAK: Brian Bernhardt has the long hitting streak on the team now - 11 games...that’s only five shy of the school record of 16 that was set in the 1994 season....also on hitting streaks are Charlie Kingrey with a five game streak, Dustin Smith with a five game, Seth LaStrapes with a three game and Chris Fontenot with a two game streak. Charlie Kingrey leads the Cowboys in batting average and runs batted in and is tied for the lead in home runs. The freshman from Kinder, LA is batting .415 with 16 RBIs and two home runs. In his last four games he has 10 hits in 17 at bats and has hit four doubles and two home runs whle driving in nine runs.
