Miami (FL) Hurricanes (1926-2003)

I am loving listening to Yahoo Sports Radio right now.

"This isn't like Ohio State. I'll get you a prostitute and a yacht! It's like a Tupac party all over again!"

These guys are cracking me up.

I won't listen to or read a word that espin has to say on this matter. All they'll do is read what Yahoo has uncovered and then claim "sources." espin is a fucking joke.

Yahoo, however, is proving to be the place to turn for sports news.

How about a Yahoo sports network??

Here is the Donna Shalala quote from the Gee article just a few days ago:

ESPN.the.Magazine

At Miami, president Donna Shalala personally hires each coach. She studies the NCAA rulebook and weekly compliance reports. During football games, she scours the sidelines for suspicious guests. "I'm on alert all the time," she says.
From today's Yahoo story:

NCAA rule-breaking with coaches and staffers: Shapiro said he violated NCAA rules with the knowledge or direct participation of at least six coaches - Clint Hurtt, Jeff Stoutland and Aubrey Hill on the football staff, and Frank Haith, Jake Morton and Jorge Fernandez on the basketball staff. Multiple sources told Yahoo! Sports Shapiro also violated NCAA rules with football assistant Joe Pannunzio, although the booster refused to answer any questions about that relationship. Shapiro also named assistant football equipment manager Sean Allen as someone who engaged in rulebreaking, and equipment managers Ralph Nogueras and Joey Corey as witnesses to some of his impropriety.

Among the specific incidents, Shapiro or other sources say Hurtt, Hill, Stoutland, Pannunzio and Allen all delivered top-tier recruits to Shapiro's home or luxury suite so the booster could make recruiting pitches to them. Among the players who were ushered to Shapiro while they were still in high school: Eventual Miami commitments Ray-Ray Armstrong, Dyron Dye and Olivier Vernon (prompted by Hurtt); eventual Florida commitments Andre Debose (Hurtt) and Matt Patchan (prompted by Stoutland and Pannunzio); eventual Georgia commitment Orson Charles (Pannunzio); and eventual Central Florida commitment Jeffrey Godfrey (Allen).

Nevin Shapiro said this photo was taken during a basketball fundraiser in 2008, in which the booster donated $50,000 to the program. From left to right are men's basketball coach Frank Haith, Shapiro and University of Miami president Donna Shalala. Shalala is holding Shapiro's donation check, which the booster has said was entirely comprised of ponzi funds.
(Special to Yahoo! Sports)

Cont'd ...
Just know where those checks are coming from, Donna. Some of that money was from a ponzi scheme which apparently ripped off over $1 million from your pal Barry Alvarez and his family.

I feel bad for Matt and Andre. They both go on official Miami recruiting visits - and are both taken to Shapiro's house by the freaking Miami coaches, in one case the recruiting coordinator - who in Andre's case then takes him and two others to a night club and a strip club.

I think it a little unreasonable for a 17 year old kid on a recruiting trip with his potential position coach* to later jump out of a car driven by a Miami staff member (in front of two other stud recruits) in that situation and yell, "No!....No man - no gorgeous nude girls for me!!!! Take me home NOW!!"

So now both Matt and Andre are in the news and labeled bad kids for essentially going on official recruiting trips. Assholes.

reading the cryami scout board, the cryami fans are taking the same approach USC fans did...."nothing to see here" "this will all blow over" "guy has zero credibility" "ZERO PROOF!!!11"

harsh reality coming for them

He knew all along he was breaking the rules. He said everyone at Miami either did also or did everything they could to not know. They gladly took his money and put his name on a student lounge. They let him lead the team out of the tunnel, twice. They let him fly on the team plane for a road game. They gave him sideline access and honored him during games.

No way they can deny involvement with this guy. No way. SMH
