Miami (FL) Hurricanes (1926-2003)

They don't get credit for that shit.
They didn't schedule us. The state legislature did.

Yeah, the Iowa legislature did the same thing between Iowa and Iowa State. It potentially cost Ohio State a co-conference championship in 1982 and a trip to the Rose Bowl. Since Iowa had to play Iowa State; Iowa didn't play Ohio State giving both teams only 8 conference games. All the other B1G teams played 9 conference games. In the B1G scUM finished 8-1 (and went to the Rose Bowl, the assholes lost to UCLA...) and Ohio State finished 7-1. Had the Buckeyes beaten Iowa, Ohio State would have been the Rose Bowl representative after beating scUM head to head.

AP source: Miami, AD Blake James parting ways

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — Miami and athletic director Blake James are parting ways, a person with knowledge of the decision said Monday, two days after the Hurricanes’ football team lost at Florida State.

Some aspects of James’ exit were still being finalized, according to the person who spoke with The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the move had not been announced by the school.

But it certainly indicates that Miami is considering more changes in athletics, such as the future of football coach Manny Diaz. It also comes about six weeks after school president Julio Frenk released a letter to the university community insisting he would increase his involvement with athletics and saying “we are fully committed to building championship-caliber teams at The U.”

Football — the biggest part of Miami’s athletic brand — has struggled again this season. Miami is 19-15 in Diaz’s three seasons, including 5-5 this season. The Hurricanes wasted an eight-point lead in the final minutes of a 31-28 loss to Florida State on Saturday.

James was part of the decision-making group that hired Diaz in 2018, luring him away from a job at Temple that he’d held for less than a month. Diaz had been Miami’s defensive coordinator under Mark Richt, and when Richt resigned on Dec. 30, 2018, the Hurricanes needed only a few hours before completing a deal with Diaz.

James accepted the Miami job in February 2013, with the Hurricanes still in the throes of the NCAA investigation into the actions of rogue former booster Nevin Shapiro. The Hurricanes got through scholarship limitations and probation that followed the Shapiro decision, and James helped the school complete a number of facilities projects — a baseball player development center, an indoor practice facility for football, a nutrition center and many more.

He’s also well-regarded nationally, serving as a past chair of the NCAA Division I Council.

But football is, again, nowhere near the championship level that Miami craves. And two days after the loss to Florida State, Miami made a major change.

Well, they’ll let the new AD pick Manny Diaz’s replacement.

Why should Manny be fired? I just watched the FSU-Cryami game from Saturday, Miami actually had a good comeback to take a 28-23 lead in the 4th. Both teams have 2 timeouts as FSU starts a drive in the final 2 minutes. Then FSU completes a long pass just short of the Miami goal line with 58 seconds left, when I see that the guy didn’t score I said out loud ‘timeout Miami’. They stop the clock temporarily to move the chains, then of course they also review the play. Finally FSU lines up on the 1 and the refs start the clock, and FSU is wisely letting it run - Manny finally calls timeout with 50 seconds left. Then they stop them on first down, I again say ‘timeout Miami’, and Manny let’s the clock run from 44 down to 36 before calling his final timeout. Twice he wasted 8 seconds by simply having his head up his ass and not calling timeout when it was obvious he needed to.

So after FSU scores and gets the 2-pointer, there are 31 seconds left instead of 46 or 47. They manage to complete a pass to their own 45 with 2 seconds left, and try spiking it when they didn’t have the required 3 seconds to do so. Game over, when they should have had about 15 seconds left, with a chance to get another 20+ yards needed for the tying FG attempt.

Totally inept clock management, where any decent high school coach would have known better. Manny makes over $3 million a year.

I see Miami messing up the hire again and being cheap. Or spending the money on big name that will not be successful. The new coach will start with a terrible 2022 class(currently at 8 commits with no high end talent leaning towards them), sitting behind on 2023 class, and yet again have to rely on the transfer portal for any type of incoming talent. He may be able to turn recruiting around in year 3, but by then the fanbase expects an ACC title and CFP berth at minimum.
