Miami Marlins (2x World Series Champions)

If Steinbrenner had any clue what he was doing and was dead-set on firing Torre, he would be on the horn to Girardi. But he doesn't, and will hire Lou Peniella instead. How long does it take to realize you cannot buy a championship in todays MLB?

New Marlins ballpark features two giant aquariums behind home

A few details of the Marlins new ballpark in Miami have previously leaked and they've seemed out of place at a baseball game. The just-announced "backstop aquariums" fall under that non-traditional category, but I think they're going to be one of baseball's cooler stadium features when the bagel-slicer looking park opens in 2012.

The two giant aquariums will be located on either side of home plate, but not directly behind it. And no worries on a Faith No More-type situation with a fish flopping around on the ground and gasping for air because the aquariums will be constructed with shatterproof glass.

Contd....
Some of the comments lol.....

Hopefully the 5 season ticket holders at the new ballpark will enjoy it on a nightly basis.
Might as well look into Marlo the birdkeeper housing some orioles in the backstop at Camden.
What's going to be interesting is when the fish die and start floating in the middle of a game. The question, though, is who will be there to see it?

yeah, their attendance is dreadful.
LSU baseball outdraws them several times per year.

their AAA park is in New Orleans.
I usually go to a few games per season
never seen more than about 1,000 people at any game I've been to

The management of that team has basically pissed everyone off down here. First by bilking the taxpayers by lying about their financials so that the county would pay 100% for their stadium, then turning around and selling off anyone who has any modicum of talent. To top it off, where they built the stadium is a nightmare location. No parking to speak of and in a very seedy area.

Our company has season tickets, and they mostly go un-used.

I wish i lived closer to an MLB stadium.
would love to be a regular at games.
even in a seedy neighborhood in South Florida.

i basically have an open invitation to Astros games, but Houston is a good 6-7 hours from here, so it's a rarity that I can attend.

I'm two hours from Tropicana field, but I wasn't impressed with the place at all when I went to and Indians/Rays game in 2010 and the parking was crap with the location in St. Petes not the best. Its a shame that the Marlins' sweet new stadium gets such poor attendance, but hey, when I finally make a trip to Miami I can look forward to cheap seats for a game.

Report: Marlins and Giancarlo Stanton agree to record-breaking $325 million extension

usatsi_7786322.jpg

Superstar outfielder Giancarlo Stanton and the Marlins now have a deal in place for a record $325 million over a record 13 years, sources connected to the team say. That landmark contract keeps the beloved Stanton in Miami at least through his 20s and maybe until he’s 38, and brings credibility to a franchise that’s seemed cash-strapped and beleaguered at times but appears to be on the upswing now.

Stanton, 25, will receive a crucial early opt-out clause in addition to a no-trade provision, according to those sources. According to the terms of this deal, which is the largest in North American sports history — eclipsing Miami product Alex Rodriguez’s $275-million Yankees contract — Stanton will be able to opt out not long after he turns 30, giving him a chance to set a second contractual record, as A-Rod did at age 32, via his opt out seven years ago.

man I really like Stanton but 325 million?????
They don't have a choice...they backed themselves into a corner by firesaleing after WS...twice...and then opening an new audacious ballpark. If they don't pay their one identifiable and marketable superstar what he wants, they might as well just put the games on TV and forget selling tickets.
