Michael Drake (Former OSU President)

I thought he did Urban dirty, and personally, think it will really come to bite the football program squarely in the ass.

Now, if you’re about education and furthering OSU’s mission as a research institution.....god bless.

If the football program is your biggest priority (guilty as charged) Drake really contributed heavily to Meyers exit.

If Meyer ends up at ND as many are expecting? Not only did Drake contribute to Meyer leaving, but he also helped place him at the worst possible school that can damage OSU’s future success based on ND’s national appeal.
What did Urban dirty was his loyalty to an assistant coach - a train wreck looking for a place to happen. When it happened it left Drake and the Board with few options. That he was suspended for three games and then brought back and allowed to "retire" showed compassion beyond rightful expectations. BTW - when Urban came back to the shoe for the Wisconsin game, he proudly stated to the rest of his broadcast team, "Isn't this a fantastic place for a football game." I interpreted that remark to mean, I still love Ohio State, no hard feelings.

Someone else said it best on here; Drake didn’t take it upon himself to meddle; Meyer and Smith had their chance to act more swiftly on Zach and they.. didn’t.

The school looks even worse if Drake is of the mindset “I’ll let those guys handle it, it’s their department.” This then truly becomes an institutional issue.

Now that my emotions are separated from the issue, I’m fine with Drake’s approach to it. Once it reaches him, it’s guaranteed to end poorly.

Why not? Les bought his kid the valedictorian award at Columbus Academy, so this actually makes sense. On a more serious note, if the university does go in a non-traditional direction, I think she might be an interesting choice.
I should update my remark by saying that running Ohio State is running the Wexner Medical Center a raising a ton of money.

I’d imagine a Wexner would be particularly good at the latter although I don’t know much about Abigail off the top of my head.

Les Wexner was tied pretty closely to Jeffrey Epstein in ways that the University might not want to invite additional scrutiny on, though.

How are people confusing Drake with Gene Smith so badly? The PR around tattoo gate was completely botched as well and that was before Drake was around. There’s a common denominator here, though.

Drake was brought in to run the $4 billion-dollar-a-year monster that is the Wexner Medical Center and the next President will be brought in to do the same.

Go read the report on Meyer, he’s lucky he wasn’t fired on the spot.

Gene, who was on vacation and then suspended with Urban, orchestrated the PR ??
How ridiculous.
I'm sure there were a lot of common denominators at Ohio State from 2011 to 2018... most people don't leave jobs at big Universities unless they're forced to.

You mean the report by independent counsel whose guidance was no punishment, until Drake demanded some punishment for sake of optics ?

Was Gene also responsible for the band PR that insulted thousands of proud Alumni ?

In a perfect world the President of the University would want to stay far away from the athletic program at a place like tOSU. He needs to do his thing when he has to get involved with the athletic programs it’s usually not a good thing for the University.

And yet he's out here writing condemnation pieces on the NCAA's behalf... actively working against Ohio State's interests.

He was on vacation for a week at the beginning of August (https://abc6onyourside.com/news/loc...-of-vacation-during-urban-meyer-investigation). The press conference and announcement was on August 22nd.

Here’s a link to the report.

I don’t see a recommendation on punishment one way or the other. They laid out the facts and that’s it. There were PLENTY of facts that warranted punishment.

Firing Jon Waters was the right thing to do and the band is better for it.

What are you talking about?

It's quite clear Gene had nothing to do with the PR in 2018.
You're literally making shit up at this point and throwing it against the wall to see what sticks.

Not what I said. Try again. Without changing the subject.

What are you talking about?

Try to keep up.

Let’s just say they’re both bad at PR, I guess?

I find it a bit too much of a coincidence that the 2011 and 2018 debacles were both horribly mismanaged when Smith was here for both and Drake was not for Smith to have nothing to do with it the second time around.

But you know what? Fuck it, it was 100% Drake’s fault. At this point who gives a shit?
You very clearly said the “independent counsel” and not the board of trustees.

You don’t seem to be arguing in good faith here.

I guess all I can say is I’m sorry he hurt your feelings so badly while doing the right thing?
I think Ohio State will somehow manage to make it through this devastating letter just fine.

No, you're literally making shit up and hoping it sticks.

The BoT based their decision (time served / no more suspension) on the independent investigation.
But sure, you caught me in a minor error.
Point still stands:
The 3game suspension was Drake, whether you agree with it or not -- that was 100% his call, in defiance of the advice.

I guess all I can say is I’m sorry he hurt your feelings so badly while doing the right thing?

What "right thing" ? These emotional arguments aren't based in reality. Insulting thousands of alumni that engaged in light hearted banter in their own circles was HRC "deplorable" level of stupidity.
There wasn't a single case of documented discrimination.
The PR fuckup and bending the University' rep over for an outside agency was, again, all Drake.

I think Ohio State will somehow manage to make it through this devastating letter just fine.

Spin it however you want. Ya'll keep this line that he's not dabbling in Athletic Dept, or he only has OSU's best interests ... but here he is, once again, being a stooge for the NCAA' benefit rather than performing his job for The Ohio State University.

Because I’m drinking already and about to head to campus, I say this with the utmost sincerity - tl;dr.
