Michigan Coaching Speculation

If DeBord gets it, I may quit being a Michigan fan.

my money's on DeBord... he's gotta be the guy who has the best relationship with the underclassmen on the squad, so he's gotta be the guy who stands the best chance of keeping things on track. i don't think the alums are going to back English, but, if Bollinger was still there, that might be a different story.

heck, if Bollinger was there, he might even get the alums to back Mahmoud Ahmadinejad!

:oh:

edit: i'm not attempting to draw a comparison b/w English and Ahmadinejad

Names not being thrown around: Charlie Weiss, Gary Moeller, Lou Holtz, Marvin Lewis, Jerry Faust and Mr. Rogers. Maybe Joe Torre?

If it's Miles the LSU fan base and AD are going to have a shit fit. How can a team that has been in the NC picture as often as they have the last six years not keep a coach?

I don't think that's a very accurate comparasion, considering the talent of the players involved (NFL vs. CFB)

How is that not an accurate comparison? If he can use a pro defense to slow down a pro offense (same talent level), then he should be able to do the same with a college defense against a college offense. Remember when folks were doubting Tressel when he was first hired because "he was successfulat the I-AA level, but this is I-A". I would think a solid NFL defensive coordinator would be able to handle college offenses (not as complex) with his college defense, especially at a school like Michigan where he could recruit top-level talent.

I'm not following your logic here, NF. Isn't what Nebraska and Notre Dame did? Hire a guy to come in there and totally change things?

I'd argue that Nebraska wasn't in need of big changes. Ntre Ame...well, they just fucked up and hired a gluttonous moron. M*ch*g*n needs big changes...just like tOSU did in 2001. It's a matter of finding the right guy.

Well, my question is... will they figure out its a shot when Michigan doesn't offer Miles the job.

Was it a big change though? Cooper to Tressel? I hate to seem dismissive of Tressel's impact, and I'm not trying to be... but... I don't know that the philosophy was "Big Change" It seemed to me to be a more of a refocus on core values... but... if that's a "big change"--- and it may well be--- then you're probably exactly right as to what Michigan is looking for. At any rate, lots of variables there.... so... probably just a semantics issue.

 You mean he'd already abandoned them privately for the LSU job? He was certainly on the sidelines coaching.

What I was trying to explain here was that at the time when we were getting ready to play Oklahoma State, i had concerns about Les Miles
and his coaching abilitys. I had the respect for him at the time, but the way Ohio State played against them (Okla/State) made me think that Les Miles would not be the man that Michigan would take. That was the point I was trying to make. Thats all.

With Scum's history of taking talent from Ohio why not Glenn Mason? Not that I think it would happen and there are a lot of reason why it shouldn't but he knows Big Ten football, recruited Ohio well and at least had a running game year in and year out. Crazier things have happened........

Damn Buckeye Dynasty beat me to it....

Did anyone see Les Miles crying (tears of love for the Michigan game) and expressing his interest for the michigan post. I could not beleive that and
that is bad news for LSU fans. Man if he loses to Arkansas the LSU fan will run him out of town on a rail. Wow that was bad timing.

He's a Riverboat gambler of the first order. If one of those gambles results in a loss in his next three games there may not be time to get him off to Ann Arbor before the Baton Rouge folks lynch his ass.
