Michigan RB Michael "Shart" Shaw (carrying on the proud tradition of #20)

OSU certainly knows about Shaw as they were keeing their eye on him at camp, but it seems as if he has improved much since then. I would love to see Michael go back and earn an offer though. He certainly has good enough feet to be a DB (that's what I was impressed with at all the drills at camp), so if he can work out at DB and show some good hips and closing speed, he could very well get an offer at DB.

The obvious question then becomes, what position does he want to play in college even? It seems the majority of top-notch high school running backs don't like to switch positions coming into the next level. It does happen of course, but most highly productive hs RBs just don't seem to like to give up the ball carrying.

Shaw is being recruited as a RB, not a DB.

He will be a RB at Michigan, Penn St, or Tennessee

More than likely Penn St or Michigan.

UM has offered him as an ATH.

They've only officially offered three RB's.

Sam McGuffie (their #1 target)

Darell Scott (their #2 target)

Covaughn Deboskie (their #3 target)

They've offered another RB out of Arizona named Ray Polk, but they've offered him as a DB, not a RB. UM is probably taking 1 RB (if that one is McGuffie), 2 at the most (if McGuffie isn't part of the class). They still haven't offered in-stater Jonas Gray yet and that is in large part because of Sam McGuffie. They've promised McGuffie quite a bit, and if he verbals you can bet he is the only back they'll take. They've made McGuffie the same promise OSU made Torrence, which is basically become a commit and you are our lone RB. McGuffie is the guy they want most. He's #1 with a bullett for UM, and I don't see them getting a verbal from Shaw to play RB to screw that up for them.

They have also offered Haden Super Mario. Why do you like Mcguffie so much? I think he is good, but people act like he is the second coming.

Haden doesn't have an offer. Michigan is in his Top 3 but they are barely even recruiting him. I don't like McGuffie that much, the UM coaches do. They've made alot of promises to him and have been after him for a long time. When Robert Hughes was their #1 RB target in the '07 class it kind of puzzled me. I thought there was a better option out there who was kind of digging UM, his name was John Clay. Well, I'm kind of puzzled as to why they love McGuffie so much when Darrell Scott seems to be initiating contact with them and digging UM. Scott called to set up an official and didn't have an official offer up until about a month ago. Scott geneuinely likes UM, but they are seriously going kamikazee over McGuffie. McGuffie is the RB they desperately want.

with all due respect Buckeye4, was just trying to explain something to goblue15 and the other poster who suggested that UM is recruiting Mike as a RB. Didn't mean to get too off topic.

Anyway, I think Shaw is a legit "sleeper" prospect and that with the transfer to a good program like Trotwood-Madison that he'll have a big-time senior season and OSU might even wind up throwing their hat in the ring if a schollie or two opens up. If Mike decided to come to Michigan that it'd be awesome for the Wolverines, because he's a solid player, one of the very best in the state of Ohio for his class. I think they'd start him out at DB, but they could always switch him back to RB pretty quickly if need be.

I guess my original intention was to just state that I doubt they'd bring Shaw in as a RB considering they've promised McGuffie alot. Thus far they've told him he'd be their only RB if he came in, that he'd play as a frosh, he'd be an option at KR/PR, and that he could have the #2 if he wants it. IF Shaw is being recruited as a RB by UM, that'd have to mean McGuffie told them he wasn't coming, and he's making a trip up to Ann Arbor pretty soon, so unless that changes I doubt it's that.

I may have missed it, but did Shaw play defense at all last year? Did he work out at DB at any of the camps this year? Not every offensive skill player can make the transition to DB. Where did the talk of playing DB come from?

They have promised McGuffie he would be the first RB to commit publicly.

the GBW calling Shaw an ATH is a Joke. He is a RB and only a RB. Played very little defense ever.

For all you know Shaw could have already verballed to Michigan. Just keeping it quiet.

Free Scout

This quote from the article sums it up: ""This summer I plan to visit all my top schools, plus West Virginia," he said. "I probably won't make a decision until after I take a few visits and really get comfortable with the schools."

Also has a few comments on a visit to UM.
