Michigan State Spartans (official thread)

That's embarressing... I've never seen that in major college football. If we can get through september undefeated we are WALKING into the scum game undefeated.

MSU poses absolutely no threat in my eyes

They shouldn't have posed any threat in '98 or '15 either but they did

Always count on some kind of voodo weather/play out of their skull/weird game bullshit with MSU. It's like going to Happy Valley

Never underestimate Tressel's padawan imo.

Nobody should know better than us that Tresselball often looks underwhelming but can grind some opponents down.

We should beat them, but I wouldnt sleep on it. They've ruined an NC trip for us twice in the last 5 years...

I don't think Tresselball can grind down a more talented opponent, it simply gives a mistake prone, but more talented opponent, the chance to pay more for their mistakes.

Tressel/Martyball wears down inferior opponents, no question.

Yeah but roughly the same squads from a 48-3 plunger job? Shoot we are probably better offensively. I definately get what you mean though

The 1997 Ohio State team went into EL and won 37-13. The 1998 OSU team was all the same guys and one of the best teams in OSU history. We all know how that nightmare unfolded.

Last year means dick.

Well id say we were more talented in 15 for sure... arguably 13.
I just refuse to sleep on these guys while Dantonio is there.
Once he's gone they'll surely go back to their historical bottom feeder status.

oh absolutely can't sleep on them

I think it's more Dantonio loading up on pissed off 3 star Ohio kids who go nuts for the game against OSU every year than his sad devotion to Bollman and shitty offense but who knows.

They also havent been as good since Narduzzi decided to suck at Pitt.
It was always about their D 1st and foremost, efficient QB management, a good back, and solid special teams play.
Their D hasnt been consistently dominant recently, but Lewerke and Scott fit the mold.

Duzzi was a HUGE loss. I am thinking he is an amazing top shelf DC and not so great HC. But I am still willing to give him time. He may need some better coordinators to get it done at Pitt.

I am beginning to think that the main issue with big time football is that there are only enough top shelf Oline and Dline players to go around and those who stockpile that talent wins out. Yeah the skill players are needed but the divide between good and great skill players does not seem nearly as wide as the one between the linemen. Couple that with the fact that the physical size needed also limits the number of players and you can see the limiting factor is more than just coaching. Without the talent and depth of talent up front you can not compete at the highest levels week in and week out.

This topic is why IMO MSU is dipping a bit in performance. Yes Narduzzi leaving hurt. But SCum not completely sucking has also hurt the depth up front. An extra top shelf player up front every year has a massive advantage over time. The RichRod years when SCum went away from the big horses really helped MSU up front. Now SCum is back taking big boys and MSU is losing depth and talent up front on both sides.

This is why tOSU has been so good for so long. Keep all the in State talent in the trenches (there is a ton) and get a few out of State and you will be good regardless of the QB and RB. I may get booted off the board but I thought tOSU biggest issue the last few years has been the QB and lack of a real passing game. I thought Barrett was not a very good passer and teams could play tOSU a bit 1 dimensional. I think you are seeing what having a passer that can throw with accuracy can do for your attack. I know Barrett was a winner and he had some great games and numbers. But when he had to be a drop back passers and pick apart a defense he struggled (I get many do). The secret to beating MSU defense is real simple and is talked openly by the DC. Short passing game will destroy MSU defense. It is set up to stop the power run game and deep passing attack. The hole is the short passing attack. An accurate short passing attack will eat up that defense.

As far as understanding MSU success against OSU. It is all about Dantonio. He knows OSU and has said he breaks down 3 teams every Summer. 2 of which are always OSU and SCum. He preps year around for those 2 teams and that is why with lesser talent he is able to be successful.

I have to come on and congratulate my Spartans. Huge win.

I am just wondering if the Pedsters think MSU is there rival since they are 1-5 the last 6 games against MSU. Because I know MSU main rival is SCum regardless of how they feel about it.

After watching that game and listening to Coach D all week it is obvious to me that he is the 2nd best coach in the B10. And the only coach I think is even close is Fitzgerald in 3rd place. Franklin is pathetic and needs to just shut his pie hole and move on. obviously Meyer is the king. But I am now 100% positive Dantonio is number 2. And I am not sure there is anyone I would want coaching a big game in the league including Meyer. He is a master.

Dantonio has mastered Tressel ball and plays it well. I keep expecting him to come out of the tunnel with a sweater vest on for these big games.

I fully expect MSU to beat SCum this weekend. I listen to the radio and they explain how SCum is better at every position group. And that Dantonio may be a slightly better coach (comical) but that this is the year SCum will crush MSU and never look back. The beginning of SCum dominance.

I used to get mad about the lack of respect. But I now welcome it. Because it only makes the loses hurt more for that fan base. That fan base is reeling from the loses. Another sweep by MSU and tOSU over SCum and they may actually point this out to Hardball. Wait wait sorry, that fan base will justify it by saying MSU and tOSU cheat. I always laugh about this because if MSU is cheating they are dam shitty at it. This team is threatening to end the NFL drafty streak of 78 years. So yeah MSU is cheating.....LOL. Just loaded with top shelf talent.

Guys even us Spartan fans mock that POS Land Grant trophy.

We proposed that the loser must keep that thing.

Also it was broken in our locker room after the game........shocking.

It looks like some 1950s bowling trophy. Lets add some more shit to it.

But yes we will be doing our best to kick the crap out of that squad. I was pretty sure this season was headed into the shitter but the gutsy win proves the team still has some fight left. And they now have something to play for again. I was worried they were just throwing in the towel. A win this week and MSU vs OSU actually means something. I don't see how MSU will cover let alone win but one can never never never ever sleep on Dantonio. He is a monster.
