Coming off a weekend series win over Georgetown, the Ohio State baseball team continues its 11-game homestand with a midweek game against Toledo at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. The Buckeyes (16-7) have won eight of their last 10 games and 5-1 at Bill Davis Stadium this spring.

  • The Buckeyes are receiving votes in two national polls (NCBWA and USA Today Coaches Poll). The team has two ranked wins on the year vs. No. 15 Southern Miss and No. 21 Coastal Carolina.
  • Ohio State had a seven-game win streak snapped last Saturday against the Hoyas, but rebounded with a walk-off 5-4 win in 10 innings in the series finale Sunday.
  • The team is hitting .294 as team with 70 extra-base hits and 20-for-24 in stolen bases.
  • Ohio State ranks first in the Big Ten in scoring (7.3) and runs scored (168), second in batting average (.294) and on-base percentage (.386) and third in doubles (44), home runs (20) and slugging percentage (.437).
  • The OSU pitching staff has combined for a 3.88 ERA, good for third-best in the league. Ohio State has a 2.58 strikeout-to-walk ratio which ranks second in the Big Ten.
  • Senior Noah McGowan is leading the team with a .385 average with 35 hits, including eight doubles, one triple, five home runs and 30 RBI. He is second in the conference in RBI and third in batting average. McGowan was named National Player of the Week Feb. 19.
  • Sophomore Dominic Canzone is hitting .366, sixth-best in the league. The OSU outfielder is leading the league in runs scored (25). His team-high 37 hits leads the team and is second in the league. Senior Tyler Cowles is batting .349. He is third in RBI (25), seventh in hits (30) and 10th in batting average (.349).
  • Senior reliever Seth Kinker is 4-1 with a 1.29 ERA in 10 appearances. The Senior CLASS Award Candidate, Kinker is the only pitcher in the country with at least four wins and four saves in 2018.
  • Sophomore right-handed pitcher Jake Vance is making his second start of the season tonight. He is 1-1 with a 3.60 ERA with 11 strikeouts in 10.0 innings of work.

LAST TIME OUT
After a loss on Saturday, the Buckeyes rebounded with a 5-4 win in 10 innings over Georgetown last Sunday at Bill Davis Stadium. Down 3-1 in the bottom of the ninth, senior Tyler Cowles knocked a two-run homer to tie the game up. The Hoyas regained the lead in the top of the tenth, but a third double on the day by Brady Cherry knotted the score at 4-all before Noah McGowan hit the walk-off RBI single, scoring Cherry to win the game. Seth Kinker picked up his fourth win after throwing four innings on four hits, two runs, one earned run, five strikeouts and no walks.



UP NEXT
Ohio State opens Big Ten play against the defending Big Ten regular season champion Nebraska Friday-Sunday at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. The series begins at 6:35 p.m. ET Friday live on BTN. All three games will be broadcasted on AM 1460 ESPN.
