"Lets have a online vote"

Fans are embracing a San Diego group's effort to bring a Major League Soccer team to the city — or at least, they're embracing the most unlikely name for the squad. With the final round of an online vote set to close Friday, Footy McFooty Face has more than twice the votes of any other potential name.

As of Monday, Footy McFooty Face led the way with nearly 7,700 votes, well ahead of San Diego Surf (2,341) and San Diego Bad Hombres (1,644) — the only other names that have attracted more than 1,000 votes.

its official today Austin fucked over a lot of other cities that are more deserving (San Antonio being one) to get an MLS team... i feel like ordering some Crew stuff just to piss people off...

they still dont have a stadium, citizens are suing the city over use of the land.. they showed the “party” looked like 500 people there... they held a announcement party at 3pm on a tuesday.....

i give it 5 years before precourt falls out of love because he’ll be required to live here and wants to move the team... bad day fo MLS today

You should totally rock some Crew gear, AuTX. It would actually get people talking about soccer in Austin

It looked more like 50-100 people on the live feed. Sad thing is you're right... San Antonio (their city bought a freakin' stadium to house a POTENTIAL team), Sacramento (has an established team and fan base ala Cincy ready to go), and St. Louis (city with a deep soccer history, which is the opposite of Austin) all deserved this 10 times over before Austin did. I know there are some Columbus fans that are looking forward to a rivalry with Austin, but I hope it never becomes one. I hope Columbus just rubs their nose in it like Ohio State does to m*ch*g*n every year to the point where they can't stand to hear our name or think about us

With that said, I feel bad for Austin's "fans". They have to put up with his double-crossing ass until the shine comes off the apple

Get ready for it boys and girls... Austin FC ... with Yeti coolers as a sponsor (who oddly enough were laying people off the other day).....

and then there was this

Austin FC part-owner Matthew McConaughey attended the official announcement event. The actor led the crowd in a cheer of “Listo! Verde!” — which means “Ready! Green!” in Spanish.

“That will be the call back for the rest of the time in Austin,” McConaughey said. ” Anytime somebody walks by and says ‘Verde,’ you say ‘Listo.’ Somebody walks by and says ‘Listo,’ you say ‘Verde.'”

MATT LAMPSON, COLUMBUS CREW
A Hilliard, Ohio native in his first season with his hometown club, Lampson is currently the Crew’s third-string goalkeeper and did not see any action in the MLS is Back tournament.

ROGER ESPINOZA, SPORTING KC
A starting midfielder for Sporting KC, Espinoza played in all five games of his club’s run in the MLS is Back tournament before its elimination in the quarterfinals. He played all but 32 minutes in those five games and scored one goal on eight shots.

The regular-season schedule that will follow the MLS is Back tournament has not yet been announced, but Espinoza will be expected to continue playing a key role once those games resume.

MLS, players' union agree to extend CBA talks one week

"Major League Soccer met with the MLSPA and players yesterday to continue discussions on how to address the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Although we remain far apart, we will extend the 30-day negotiating period by one week to provide every opportunity to finalize an agreement.

"As part of the extension, MLS and the MLSPA are committed to a regular schedule of meetings over the coming days," the league said in a statement.

In its statement, MLS said that if an agreement is not reached by 11:59 ET on Feb. 4, it will terminate the existing CBA and institute a lockout of the players.

One league source said the league wanted "to move quickly" as it relates to completing the CBA.

A source with knowledge of the situation told ESPN that MLS will deliver a counter-proposal to the MLSPA in the next 24 hours.

"Given the impact of COVID-19 on how clubs will need to operate during preseason, we must finalize an agreement in the coming days in order to provide teams and players adequate time to prepare for the opening of training camps," the statement continued. "If we are unable to finalize a new CBA by 11:59 pm ET on February 4, the MLS Labor Committee has voted unanimously to authorize the league to terminate the CBA and institute a lockout.
