Mount Union (OH) Purple Raiders (13-time D-III National Champions)

I've been to several Stagg Bowls to see Mount Union play. It's a fun trip. Unfortunately I was there for the game after win number 55 when they lost to St. John's.

Yesterday was interesting. Seaman (Mount's QB) was knocked out of the game on the first series. His backup came in and after he settled down he threw for 335 yards and 4 TDs. They prepare them well to step in.

Nate Kmic had a similar start his freshman year. The starter went down in the first game of the playoffs and Kmic ended up with over 1000 yards in the playoffs alone. The rest, as they say, is history. I grew up in Alliance so I've been following Mount Union football way before Larry Kehres.

I was there as well, and went to a couple of more recent ones too.

Kmic was just a monster... as was Garcon.

I hate to see anyone get injured but the backup presents more problems for UWW than the starter. The starter isn't strong armed and it turns the offense into more of a west coast offense style. The backup is strong armed and the vertical passing game becomes a huge threat, particularly with Cecil Shorts running deep.

The torch is officially passed to UWW. They've now won 30 in a row, back to back titles, and 3 of the last 4 versus MUC. Mount needs to develop some semblance of a running game to overcome the Warhawks, who are beating them decisively on the ground in their recent match ups.
