My Darwin moment of the week

So I get home from work and the wife says she's going to Target to get something and I need to feed the kids and myself. I figured I would do a quick beef stroganoff. Throw the hamburger meat on the frying pan and start getting out mushroom soup, noodles, etc..

Baby starts crying, I'm starving and trying to go a thousand miles an hour and so I turn on another burner on high to get the water boiling to cook the noodles.

A few minutes later I smell a foul stench and look over to see I turned on the wrong burner on high and there happened to be a blueberry cobbler in a 8x14" or so glass casserole dish smoking like crazy. Quickly grab some pot holders and set the dish on our laminate countertops before the thing started on fire. Then grabbed another pot holder to set the dish on but by then it was too late. Totally burned the lamiate countertop. Then the dish starts to crackle and about a minute later, the glass dish exploded sending glass all over the kitchen.

Luckily kids weren't close enough to get hit by glass, but I never knew a glass dish could explode. Now I know.

Glass got in my ground beef so I had to throw it out.

Bologna and cheese and leftover pizza was dinner. Spent about 45 minutes cleaning up all the glass and now I have to go buy a new countertop.

Easily one of the stupidest things I've ever done.

The worst part of the story is you ruined a blueberry cobbler. :(

Seriously though, you had leftover pizza, and that wasn't your *first* dinner option? :shake:

 :p

Good luck with the counter replacement. :ohwell:

Yeah, I wasn't too happy about losing the cobber. There were only 2 pieces of left over pizza so I gave that to the kids and I had the bologna sandwiches.

Yeah, unfortunately laminate countertops can't be touched up and a new one has to be put in. Sucks. The wife was really impressed when she came home.:shake:

I successfully botched my way out of laundry duty over the first year of our marriage. Play your cards right, and you may never have to cook again

I never even looked at it that way, but it's genius! Maybe I'll have to have another Darwin cooking moment next week to seal my cooking fate in my household. Hahahaha! Thanks for the advice.
