my overall look on the buckeyes (long)

if that post by oh8ch doesnt get a sticker i dont know what does.....

i am flat out disgusted by the offense since tressel has arrived.....and....sorry to say this....i think the buckeyes are in for another earle bruce run....i still remember sitting in the rain and watching the 6-0 loss to wisconsin at home....

simply....the buckeyes are boring.....no wonder the rest of the world hates us.....

I have to agree, there is a coaching problem on the offensive side of the ball.
About half through the season last year our offense was rated about 100 out of 117 teams. Even without Clarrett that does not corelate to the number of guys doing well in the NFL.

My biggest point of concern is still the D-line. Unless these guys start playing like the high school all americans they were I don't hold out much hope the third week in November. It makes me sick to think about it to the point I refuse to name the F***ing no good worthless piece of garbage school we will be playing.

Well, when we finally have running backs that can find and hit a hole (when one is actually there) or bounce it outside when needed, along with having a quarterback that consistently hits open receivers, then all this whining about the offense will vaporize. Tressel has brought 4- and 5-wide sets. We've run reverses. We've done both fake punts and fake field goals. Not saying that Tressel always makes me happy with his choice of plays, but you cannot blame him solely for our offensive woes, nor even put the majority of the blame on him. The players still have to execute, and position coaches still have to properly teach. When either or both of those aren't happening, then you're going to be hurting.

Yeah...since everyone had been putting down play calling lately...I decided to really look at the MSU game for it. I think the offensive play calling was perfect. It wasn't predictable...it wasn't really conservative. It was actually pretty creative. Running plays to set up other plays. It was like a work of art...okay okay, i'm getting carried away. But it's not the play calling, it's execution. I think though, that when you are coaching kids, execution has a lot to do with the coaching staff. It's all about who you recruit and how you develop them. I think execution comes with good preperation and good coaching. Playcalling is fine. I think Tressel is awesome. I think Ohio State and Tressel could surround himself with better coaches. It's tough to keep assistant coaches at OSU though...because they always get offered better jobs. The one other thing that will improve execution is team chemestry. I think Tressel is amazing at bringing a team together. This team is young...but I think they are going to keep improving as team chemestry improves.

Oooo...an award. I feel special!

jonathan....move that chopstick up about six inches and you may get a clue...

the play calling was great when the game started and when the buckeyes were behind....

it was that in-between 52 minutes that sucked......what do you think the top and total yards by the offense were during the span that the buckeyes had a lead???

if you dont see a problem with that....again move the chopstick up a few inches....

I can understand the frustration that the offense can bring. However, I think we will see a much improved offense as soon as we figure out the O-Line troubles and add a back that can get us 125 yards a game. Tressels offense has to have a feature back and we do not have that yet!

I agree with jonathan:

Our offense was pretty good on saturday. There were 3 big plays negated because of either drops(one by holmes for about 45 or so and one by gonzo about 30) one would of been a td and the other sets up nicely to get a td. And the reverse to ginn that was called back on penalty. The also sets us up nicely.

Also I took a look at our first drive of the game.

1st play: Hall for 5 good run and decent blocking.
2nd play: Hall for 4 good cutback hole want there.
3rd play: johnson for 0 and we punt.

Good drive we should of got a first down it was 3 and 1. And johnson got stood up could of spun and got the first.

Also the 2nd drive of the game(ginn's first td).

1st play Option for 0 yards but it set up the 2nd play perfectly as we faked the option and gave the reverse to ginn. All he has to do is outrun the de and it is to da House!!!!

Then the first drive of the second half:
1st play: hall for 0, 9 in box nowhere to go.
2nd play: hitch to ginn spin move and got 9 yards.
3rd play: qb sneak first down
penalty: false start on rehring
4th play: qb draw for 5 on 1st & 15 making it 2 & 10
5th play: reverse to ginn for 25 negated because of stupid holding
6th play: 2 & 16 Kne got killed right back into smith and he lucky got a yard. IT was suppose to be a pass.
7th play: Holmes fell down on an attempted pass to the first down marker.

This drive sums up the problems this team is having. First off we can't always run on first, 2nd we make some good plays, but we are shooting ourselves in the foot with too many penalties. No where in this sequence do I see tress being too conservative not enough imagination. Just poor execution.

A couple other things to add. When we run to the strong side as in hamby's way he needs to do a better job of getting movement and hooking his guy. If he does this like on the last run by hall where he absolutely threw his guy down inside our backs make it to the outside more and get bigger gains. another thing is the reverse play is setting up the cutback up inside the de. Also we need to start holding on to the ball.

Well with all that o talk i figured i would throw a couple of defensive things in too. Kudla is having a killer season he looks great out there. Everything that teams are doing against us is going to fraser's side he is getting hooked way too easy no pressure the only good thing he has done is get his hands up and knock down a couple of balls. Also i believe our lbs arent getting enough depth on their drops to help stop all those 5 yard stops other teams are running on us. And last but not least teams should not run the option on us because our guys know how to stop it.

Per The O-Zone, OSU attempted 4 passes on first down and completed 1. Second and ten is no better than second and eight. I agree with the execution premise. It doesn't matter what play is called, if the ball is dropped or fumbled or the play is called back because of a mental error, the team is hurt.
