Myron Rolle (Future Surgeon)

Florida State safety Myron Rolle won a Rhodes Scholarship less than three hours before the Seminoles kicked off in College Park against Maryland.
Rolle was one of seven finalists who interviewed in Birmingham, Ala., on Saturday. He then boarded a charter plane and flew to Baltimore to join his teammates. He is the third Florida State student, and only football player, to win the award in the last four years. Track star Garrett Johnson and Joe O'Shea also won.
Rolle will now decide between the NFL and an all-expense paid scholarship for two or three years of study at Oxford University in England.

Congrats, Myron! He is a true student athlete.

Ouch:

I think you are wrong

I think that they will fire him and then replace him with someone else who is just as bad. When that happens, just like in 04 and in 01 this board will at first erupt with "I can't believe they hired that guy" chants. And then, at his opening press conference, the coach will throw out the normal cliches of playing hard, etc and then people will say things like "I didn't like him at first, but I'm coming around to him now" and "boy, his attitude sure is a breath of fresh air." After that, the team will start off as hot as a house on fire in part due to the talent we'll have in the upper classes along with the experience all the players have gathered these past two years, and then people will say things like "he gets it! He really gets it." That will be followed up by some stories in the press about how we did this wrong or that wrong or we got lucky to beat someone, etc and then people on this board will respond with OUTRAGE at these people that "just don't get it" or "hate ND."

In a few years, because the wrong coach was hired he'll start to trip up and then people will start blaming Weis--the players have a losing mentality, the 08 season cost us some recruits, etc. Hobbs in particular will be out front leading the charge for patience.

I would like to congratulate Myron Rolle on his achievement too.

No, not the Rhodes Scholarship, but rather his ability to single-handedly shatter 15-20 years of FSU stereotypes, which had always lead me to believe that they were ALL uneducated thugs looking for the easiest path to The League (and deeply discounted name brand apparel/footwear).

Well done, Mr. Rolle!

as an FYI, that was Lorenzo Booker vs. Lemming. But Lorenzo was another well spoken guy.

It was Myron also. Lemming told Myron that if he kept ND on his list, he would be showcased during the game, would get interviewed, and that he would have a better chance of winning MVP of the AA bowl. Lemming went on to say that the conversation never happened and continued on to basically call Myron an "attention whore".

Here's a LINK to a USA Today article covering some of that.

Nice....guess I either missed that or had forgotten about it.

Lemming has a history of pushing kids away from FSU. He hates the staff down there.

We all know about his ways in regards to Notre Dame.

If you want some entertainment for the afternoon, I'd highly suggest listening to the following radio interview between Lorenzo and Tom. It gets very heated, and Lorenzo comes off as more mature at 18 than Tom at 45. The links are below.

Florida State's Rolle to accept his Rhodes Scholarship, bypass senior season

Florida State safety Myron Rolle said he is planning to accept his Rhodes Scholarship and study in Oxford, England, starting next October and bypass his senior year of eligiblity.
Rolle, an aspiring neurosurgeon, was awarded the scholarship last weekend. He is the first Florida State football player to be so honored.
Rolle said he cannot delay the Rhodes Scholarship and is trying to decide if he will participate in the next NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis in February. He is also considering training before and after his studies at Oxford and trying out for the NFL afterward.
"I want to be a neurosurgeon," Rolle said. "And I want to help impoverished nations build up their vaccination programs. I think in many poor countries, vaccination programs and mental health programs are wrongly pushed aside."

I think Mr. Rolle should look to where the real money is in his future - neurosurgery, not the NFL. It would be a huge waste for him to play professional football IMO.

Whatever he decides, I'm sure everyone wishes this fine young man all the best.
