Relative peace for fifty years then OCBF and OCBW move to Seoul and possible war breaks out. Coincidence?
The question I must ask, and I may have missed it already (apologies if so), what the hell are you doing there?

ORD: why all the S. Korea hate?

We trained with them during Team Spirit. One of my Marines had a Walkman come up missing. The ROK NCO's called a formation & literally tore their guys hooches apart until they found it.

They brought the offender front & center and his platoon sergeant & squad leader beat the shit out of him in front of everyone. They even asked the Marine who it had been stolen from and me (his team leader) if we wanted to join in.

We both declined politely.

If Muck and 80 vouch for the Korean Marines that's certainly good enough for me. They, however, are one small group of military professionals and don't represent the overall society's mentality, which is to appease the North Koreans and, if necessary, sit back and let the Americans do the bulk of the fighting and dying.

I would also say that they've traditionally been one of our shakiest allies and no longer represent any type of strategic importance. Long story short, they're not worth any American blood.

We must not forget that N. Korea's army is a shadow army. They aren't an army if they won't fight.
And that the North doesn't have the means to go to war, from a food standpoint. Most people believe that the desertion rate would be quite high.

How many strong is the S. Korean military?

600 or 700 thousand, three million reserves. One of the largest standing armies in the world. Their youth have mandatory military training.

They have been trying to become self sufficient from a techno production standpoint, and now make most of their own stuff, even if they use other's designs. Hundai makes their tanks, an M1A1 knockoff.

They spend a bunch on defense. With those nut jobs North of them, they would be stupid not to invest in defense.

Well that and they usually do stupid shit like this when they are short of something, the big thing is determining what that something is....is it grain or is it oil?

500-600K or so active duty strength IIRC. About half the size of the KPA. They are also MUCH better trained & equipped.
Muck, is the KPA still digging those big ass tunnels under the DMZ, or did satellite/listening technology put a stop to their old "secret" underground autobahns offensive strategy?
