N.I.T. (Official Thread)

Ticket sales. Lots of other things to do on the west coast this time of year than watch a second-rate basketball tournament.

In Nebraska, Indiana, and Rhode Island, more basketball please.
I saw the Butler AD, Barry Collier, was actually the NIT chair this year. Could be he decided to give them a charity bid. But it isnt like Oregon St and Utah did so much better. The NIT also paired Butler and Nebraska, another curious twist given Collier's past.

The one other thing I could quibble with is they picked San Diego over two teams from the Pac-12, but San Diego did get over 20 wins and quantity of wins seems to be an important factor in getting an NIT bid, even in spite of a softer schedule.

IU dominated SF in the 2H. Langford is sitting out the NIT as he turns pro. I guess that means the loss to OSU was his last college game.

Clemson is also having a star player sit out the NIT, Shelton Mitchell. Wright St played a close one at Clemson. Tigers are really going to suck next year unless they add a ton of transfers. Reed, Thomas and Mitchell, their clear-cut 3 best players, are all Seniors.

Norfolk State (who lost the MEAC final to NC Central) wins at Alabama.

S-E-C! S-E-C!
Norfolk State actually had a 1-point lead and the ball with 5 seconds left in OT, then with only modest pressure from Bama they threw the ball in bounds to their guard who promptly fumbled the ball out of bounds directly under the Alabama basket. Bama had a game-winning play opportunity handed to them and they still blew it.
