Sorry, defensive coordinators, Ohio State is about to get a whole lot faster.

Keeping the best high school prospects in the Scarlet and Gray has always been one of the main objectives for Ohio State on the recruiting trail. Demario McCall was definitely one of the many recruits the Buckeyes set their eyes on early during the process. When news broke that he earned his Ohio State scholarship offer from the coaching staff, most around the scene knew it would only be a matter of time before the North Ridgeville standout announced he would stay close to home and play for Urban Meyer and his staff.

Verbally committed to Ohio State since March of 2015, McCall can officially call himself a Buckeye after signing his letter of intent with OSU today. Considered the second all purpose running back and 44th overall prospect in the 2016 class, per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. McCall, who has spent most of his high school career in the backfield, will reportedly make the switch to H-back once he joins the Buckeyes this summer.

After rushing for well over 2,000 yards as a junior for North Ridgeville, McCall's senior campaign didn't go as planned. Battling numerous injuries throughout the season, the 5'9, 171-pound standout might not have put up the same huge numbers as he did the year before, but was still selected to participate in the U.S. Army All-American game alongside many of the top prospects in the country, including his soon-to-be Ohio State teammates Austin Mack, Michael Jordan, Jonathon Cooper, Jake Hausmann, Drue Chrisman, and Binjimen Victor.

With Demario recovered from his injuries, and the Ohio State coaching staff looking for playmakers to step up with the departure of Michael Thomas, Jalin Marshall, and others, McCall could be in line to see early playing time once he arrives in Columbus, a la Curtis Samuel in 2014.

Scouting report

"Demario McCall has the talent and ability to become what most thought Dontre Wilson would become when he committed to Ohio State. Wilson hasn't lived up to the hype, but McCall has the chance to. McCall is small in stature, standing at 5'9.5 and 171 pounds, but his speed and quickness more than make up for it.

McCall's acceleration is off the charts. He has the ability to see a crease, burst through the hole, make a defender miss and get to top speed very quickly to outrun defenders en route to the end zone. He is a change of pace H-back who will not be touching the ball ten-plus times per game, so his lack of size should not be too big of an issue; however it would only be beneficial to add mass to his body, especially his lower body, in order to break arm tackles and stay on the field.

The North Ridgeville, Ohio product has the blend of elite vision, elusiveness, acceleration and straight-line speed to be Urban Meyer's next premiere playmaker." - Christopher Jason
