National Signing Day 2016: 4-star TE Jake Hausmann signs with Ohio State

The four-star tight end will be a big addition to the Buckeyes' offense in 2016.
Cincinnati native Jake Hausmann made his commitment to Ohio State official, and has signed and faxed his letter of intent in to Urban Meyer and the Buckeye coaching staff. After spending some time on campus throughout 2015, Hausmann was ready to join some familiar faces in Columbus in 2016.
The 6'4.5, 230-pound tight end received 20 official offers, including those from six other Big Ten schools, Notre Dame, Ole Miss and Georgia. The four-star athlete spent time in the offseason at Ohio State, for both Nike's The Opening in May and Junior Day back in January of 2015. It was this earlier visit that resulted in a verbal commitment from the coveted offensive player.
According to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Hausmann is the fourth-best tight end in the 2016 class, the fifth-best in the state of Ohio and ranked No. 120 nationally for incoming freshmen. He joined the East team during the U.S. Army All-American Bowl following his senior season.
Scouting report
The Cincinnati Moeller product brings the total package at tight end to Columbus and could compete for early playing time behind Marcus Baugh. Hausmann has the size, standing at 6’4 and 230 pounds, to make an instant push for the open and vastly important TE2 spot.
Hausmann is a physical blocker and a consistent receiver. As a blocker, he fires off the ball, uses his hands well and drives his legs. As a receiver, he may not be able to stretch a defense vertically, but that’s not key to the Buckeye offense. Hausmann does a good job of finding holes in the defense and moving the chains. His hands are reliable and he has the ability to make contested catches.
Hausmann, like Nick Vannett and Marcus Baugh, is not known for his ability to stretch the field in the passing game, but he is a willing and able blocker and a trustworthy receiving tight end.
Expect the Cincinnati native to battle fellow incoming freshman Luke Farrell, among others for the open TE2 slot in camp. - Christopher Jason
