We take a look at the addition of Buckeye receiver Austin Mack, who is already on campus at Ohio State.

Ohio State will certainly have holes to fill at receiver on the offensive side of the ball next season. With the departures of Michael Thomas, Jalin Marshall, and Braxton Miller to graduation and the NFL Draft, Zach Smith's receiver room has several empty chairs that need to be occupied. Fortunately, the Buckeyes have not only helped fill the spaces on the receiver depth chart, but have found an incredible talent in doing so with Austin Mack, who is already on campus as of mid-January.

For Mack, the love affair with Ohio State really started in the summer of 2014. Austin attended a one-day position camp on Ohio State's campus in June and stood out as one of, if not the best receiver that Urban Meyer and Zach Smith had seen from the large group of prospects. Having the chance to work with receiver coach Zach Smith during the camp certainly didn't hurt Ohio State's chances in beginning to build a strong relationship with the Fort Wayne, Indiana native.

After attending the June camp, Mack was offered by Ohio State officially not even a week after his Columbus, Ohio departure. Since then, Ohio State and Mack's relationship showed nothing but strength. After committing to the Buckeyes officially this past June, Mack has never wavered in his recruitment. He has been a solid commit for Ohio State as he has done all that he can to help the Buckeyes recruit other top 2016 targets. Mack showed his dedication to the Buckeyes after his commitment by not taking one visit to another school other than Ohio State.

With Mack's January 11 early enrollment date, he is currently the only receiver from the 2016 class to already be in Columbus on campus, giving him a great advantage to come in and not only learn the Buckeye offense, but to compete for immediate playing time. In fact, with Ohio State's current situation at receiver, Mack's size and speed give him the necessary tools to put him in the conversation to play as a true-freshman receiver come Saturdays this fall.

    Scouting report

It is big praise, but Austin Mack is Urban Meyer’s most polished perimeter prospect since he has been at Ohio State. Mack is the complete package. He stands at 6’2", 205 pounds with more room to bulk up and he is an elite athlete.
Before stepping on campus early, Mack was already a sharp route runner and could get in-and- out of breaks with ease. He can run short, intermediate and vertical routes, and gets easy separation. Mack has the ability to find the ball quickly, catch the ball away from his body and instantly turn into a playmaker. Every time he touches the ball there is a chance he can take it to the house. Mack can also come down with contested jump balls and make acrobatic catches. Overall, Austin Mack is the first true wide receiver who has a legitimate chance of playing right away for Urban Meyer’s Ohio State Buckeyes. - Christopher Jason
