Boone_Josh_njn.jpg
Press Release - New Jersey Nets rookie forward Josh Boone underwent successful arthroscopic surgery today, Wednesday, July 19, to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder, Nets President Rod Thorn announced. The surgery was performed by Dr. Riley Williams III at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan.

Josh experienced some discomfort in his shoulder during our recent summer league in Orlando, said Thorn. A subsequent MRI revealed the tear, and all parties involved felt that surgery was the most prudent option at this juncture. We expect him to make a full recovery and to be a contributor to the team during the season.

Boone, the 23rd pick overall in the recent 2006 NBA Draft, will be in a sling for two weeks, after which time he will begin rehabilitation. There is no timetable for his return.

In the recent Pepsi Pro Summer League in Orlando, the 6-10 Connecticut product averaged 10.6 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.0 blocks in five games.

Doesn't look like Cavs went strong for Banks or Butler. I think ole Danny has something up his sleeve. What are the Suns going to do with Barbosa? Makes ya wonder...

I'm all about any trade that would bring Barbosa to the Cavs. That guy would be a starter on all but 4 or 5 teams in The Association, and he just happens to be on one of them at the moment.

I'd love to bring him in, but I don't think we have enough of what the Suns want. They have interest in Gooden, but you won't see a straight up trade for multiple reasons. I think the chances of us getting him are slim, but I'm still hoping for it to happen!

Anyway, todays news:

Interesting to see Al return to Indy. That makes the Pacers more of a threat to the Cavs.:(

I don't see why the Bulls didn't try to get more out of JR Smith. He has a ton of upside. I didn't think Eisley and 2 second rounders was enough. Good deal for Denver, in my opinion.

Yeah DJ has been on the block for about a week or so. Hopefully someone wants his contract and we get something fairly decent for him. Maybe he'll be dealt with Drew.

I don't know about Williams. I don't think we should spend to much on him ecspecially since he's coming off a career threatening injury. I guess it wouldn't be to bad if we can't find a good deal for Drew. Honestly I'd rather settle for Wesley than Williams.

Salmons_John_phi.jpg
TSN.ca - John Salmons has decided against joining the Toronto Raptors .

According to the Toronto Star, Salmons has backed out of a 5-year, $23 million sign and trade deal that would sent Salmons to the Raptors for a second round draft pick in 2007.

"Upon reviewing the basketball situation in Toronto, John decided it's not the best fit for him," said a statement released Friday from Salmons' agent, Joel Bell.

"In a very stressful and tough decision, he decided he could not accept the opportunity to play for the Raptors, even though he was excited about the prospect of being in Toronto."

Salmons previously had to make a decision as to whether he wanted to join the Raptors or the Phoenix Suns , but the Suns offer is now off the table after the team signed guard Marcus Banks to a deal similar to that rejected by Salmons.

"I'm sorry it didn't work out, I wish him the best," Toronto president and general manager Bryan Colangelo said last night.

Philadelphia have also rescinded their qualifying offer to Salmons, making the guard an unrestricted free agent.</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

His agent, Calvin Andrews, spent the day with Gooden in Orlando on Thursday briefing him on negotiations.

''I think there's progress. I don't know which way -- signing him or possibly a sign-and-trade. I feel good about the talks that we're having.''
