NBA Discussion (Official Thread)

Where do the Cavs fit in to this new look Eastern Conference? Oh yeah, they’ll be at the bottom with their best 2 players being essentially the same (same attributes and minimal impact.) Gotta love the NBA.

Beauty pageants are more interesting and authentic.

Philadelphia looking like a real threat to win it all next year....

Agree completely. Getting surprisingly little hype too. As a Celtics fan, I've always thought that Horford's one of those guys who's underratedness is discussed so much that he's actually a little overrated, but I think he's a perfect fit for that team: He can stretch the floor and keep the ball moving keep Embiid fresh throughout the regular season (while providing rim protection when Embiid sits), mentor Embiid and Simmons on professionalism, and keep their locker room on point. I think they kept the right guys, let the right (and expensive) guy walk (getting a fair amount of what he gave them back with Richardson), and signed the right guy for them.

Funny how possibly the two biggest offseason winners were teams in LA and NYC, but the off-brand franchises of the Clippers and Nets. The Nets won't see any real improvement until KD heals, though. Utah also seems to have positioned themselves very nicely to improve, although much more subtly than some other teams.

I guess it was a coup for the Nets to get two big time players to sign with them especially since they didn't have to mortgage the next 5 years for 1 year of relevance like last time. On the other hand the 2 players they got have big question marks. KD is out all next year with the very real likelihood he is never the same player. Kyrie is best suited to be the best player on a bad team. He doesn't really play well with others and he's a fragile head case. I doubt they ever make the Eastern Finals.

The Clippers gave up a ton for PG, but at least they have both guys for the next few years. No doubt they are going to be giving OKC some good draft picks before it's all said and done. If OKC can work half as good of a deal for Westbrook as they did with PG they have the potential to be scary if they can draft like they did the last time they rebuilt. Their biggest problem is location and unwillingness to pay to keep their team.

The best thing about the offseason was the NBA will have a lot more parity this year. I don't see a dominant team like the Warriors have been for the past 5 years. I've been saying since they signed KD that they cut their window from an additional 5-6 years to 3-4. Turns out it was 2 due to injuries. Not worth it in my opinion. You have to build through the draft like OKC and the Warriors did then hold on as long as you can. The minute you start harvesting your good young players and draft picks to win now it's over.

not quite this ... but Russ got traded to Houston... so the 2 biggest ball hogs in the league on the same team... thats not going to end deliciously

Just as delightful a destination. Envisioning the end-of-game scenarios is mouthwatering .

Grayson Allen got ejected after two flagrant fouls and a tech. All NBA teams need to come to an agreement that at the start of each game, the very last bench player starts, and checks that clown in to the 11th row of seats until that pussy learns how to play basketball.

Tell me he doesn’t deserve it.
