NBA Finals - Celtics vs. Lakers

Congrats to Boston and thanks for putting this game away early tonite so I can get some sleep.

I do have one lingering question though after watching this series:

How is it possible that Boston did not make the playoffs the past two years with Paul Pierce in a weak Eastern Conference?

That fact alone had me questioning whether this Boston team could make a serious run. KG isn't a clutch player. (sorry, he's not - terrific player, yes - clutch, no). Ray Allen is getting older. And before the season started, the Celtics bench looked like the pu pu platter. So that left Paul Pierce, who I was convinced had simply been considered an All Star because he put up big numbers on a shitty team.

Now I'm convinced that he just didn't care about winning with a team that couldn't win. While that's not a good thing, he sure showed me wrong in the playoffs by taking over Game 7 against the Cavs and definatively winning the Finals MVP.

Some more good news is that with the game going as it is I can go to bed.
Night all.

If you thought the Lakers could get within 4 points, you'd stay up in order to post 'Pay me da money' in the Game 6 vBet thread. :wink2:

Bullshit.

There's no way the Paul Pierce that showed up in these Finals couldn't have led a team to the playoffs on his own. I'm not saying that he's Lebron James or Kobe Bryant, but that Eastern Conference has been weak. And Paul Pierce is just a notch below those guys, at least in these playoffs.

Awesome, Iron Chef is on FLN, Is it wrong that I find iron chef more exciting than regular season baseball?

No. It's only wrong that you prefer it to watching your team get blasted in the NBA Finals. :wink2:

well. i expected it to be closer tonight...lakers have a bright future..but as a lifelong celtics fans..this is sweet...as for the east being weak...cleveland and detroit would be very competitve against LA...east isnt as deep as the west..but it is top heavy

[sarcasm] Boston only won tonight because the refs wanted to prove that the NBA wasn't trying to fix the game so the series would go to a 7th game. [/sarcasm]

Pierce missed about 2 months last year with an injury. Then there's the roster:

Tony Allen G
Ryan Gomes F
Gerald Green G-F
Al Jefferson
Michael Olowokandi C
Kendrick Perkins C
Paul Pierce F
Leon Powe F
Theo Ratliff C-F
Allan Ray G
Rajon Rondo G
Brian Scalabrine F-C
Wally Szczerbiak F
Sebastian Telfair G
Delonte West G

No Garnett, no Ray Allen (not to be confused with the immortal Allan Ray), no James Posey, no PJ Brown - Jefferson, Powe, Rondo, Perkins, West and Gomes were all younger. Totally different team.

Then there's the East. Look at the Heat the last couple years before this one. Look at the Nets. The Pistons were younger.

The Celtics got better while the conference got worse. They made moves, and they're paying off.
