Literally every time I watch an NBA game I fully expect one or two of them to rip off their stripes to reveal a Heat or Lakers (Or whoever is the anointed team) jersey and be the evil referee like we see in Pro/fake wrestling every once in a while.

Beyond that, we are talking about a commissioner who put an incompetent subordinate at the helm of his main pro-sport rival (the NHL), he froze an envelope to ensure the Knicks got Patrick Ewing, and he has referees so bad at their job (or so corrupt) that when one of them was actually caught being on the take, there wasn't shock to the revelation, but more of a confirmation of what people already knew or thought they knew.

I don't know if it's a preconceived conspiracy, but the refs helped OKC big time in the series against the Spurs. If the Spurs were getting the calls that OKC has gotten in game 6, they would be winning by 20.

Looking at the results so far, 22-4 in favor of yes, I wonder why most of you even watch the games? :roll1:

I think officiating in general has always been flawed but the biggest difference now is we see more games than ever, have HD, have all sorts of replays, and 24 hours of coverage to look at all of it over and over, again. I think "stars" have always gotten the benefit of the doubt because the refs are human and their perception gets skewed because "so and so is awesome so he must have been fouled to miss that badly" - subconsciously.

If half of the conspiracy theories I see on the internet are true - and yet, amazingly, there are rarely whistle blowers exposing them despite the financial windfall that would come to them - nothing in sports is on the up and up. Every commissioner is crooked, every ref is on the take, and apparently so are most of the players...except when your team wins, of course.

It's a star driven league.

I don't think there's some huge conspiracy, maybe a little leeway given to certain teams, but nothing criminal. I just think the refs are sometimes old and incompetent and get caught up the game- fans, atmosphere, players making ridiculous plays, speed of the game, posturing for calls (by coaches and players)- it all adds to a dysfunctional refereeing system sometimes.

I haven't watched more than 10 minutes of Pro/Fake Wrestling since the late 90s either and I know that's fixed. Funny how the NBA has the same feel :roll2:

Pro Wrestling admits they're fixed so you didn't exactly uncover anything.

Meanwhile, everyone involved in the great NBA conspiracy - the refs, the coaches, the players, the league office - have managed to avoid a leak the entire time, despite the fact whoever blew the whistle would be a mega celebrity/hero in a heartbeat. :roll2: :slappy:

I see Stern is using his Jedi mind trick on you, feeble-minded one

Fixed, no. Manipulated, absolutely.

Worst case was game 7 of the 2000 Western Conference Finals between the Lakers and Trailblazers. Game made me so sick, I didn't watch another NBA game until the 2007 playoffs. I still haven't watched a regular season game since then.
