I actually disagree. They are making a serious effort to compete with ESPN and I am intrigued. Obviously they have a long way to go but when the next tv deal for the BIG conference comes up, this could get very interesting...

Some of the sports business segments are well done. But other than that they have a long way to go.

Just remember that 5-10 years ago versus was OLN (Outdoor Living Network) so they are making progress...kind of

Soccer??? On Versus??? BULLSHIT. IIRC they play some of the early playoff games on Versus for the NHL. So I'll enjoy that. (not as a Jackets fan, more of a casual observer who hopes the Blackhawks win)

The rights deals don't matter. FOX has had right to a piece of nearly every league and every sport that matters in this country at either the regional or national level, yet nobody gives a shit about their sports their sports coverage compared to ESPN. Other networks might get to show the games, but before and after it's all tumbleweeds rolling by.

No network will be able to touch ESPN until somebody decides to get serious about competing with Sportscenter. NBC's Football Night in America pregame show is good, and using that model they could do it, but I won't believe they have the will until I see it. I think they're going to continue to fill half the day with bass fishing and infomercials instead.

If they can just give me highlights, rundowns and previews of games I will be happy. The quality of the other programming will come with time. It can't be as bad as Fox's college coverage and hopefully they will take some of the semi-decent stuff from the 4letter and run with it, E60 and 30 for 30, have produced some decent pieces. But other than that I hope that Yahoo teams up with them in order to smash the hell out news and investigative reporting.

NBC Olympics Live Extra is now NBC Sports Live Extra. It's not quite ESPN3, but it's more first screen content now available on the second screen. Should come in handy this fall. I didn't see USMNT matches mentioned, but I assume that's lumped in with MLS.

Users who downloaded NBC Olympics Live Extra will automatically receive NBC Sports Live Extra when they update the app. For those who did not download the Olympics app, NBC Sports Live Extra is available on the App Store for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, and on select Android handset and tablet devices within Google Play.
Viewers consumed 23.8 million live streams and 4.5 million live stream hours on the NBC Olympics Live Extra app for the 2012 London Olympics. NBC Sports has a rich live streaming history and plans to stream more than 400 live events in 2013. In February, NBCSports.com and NFL.com live streamed Super Bowl XLVI, the first-ever live stream of a Super Bowl. The game attracted 2,105,441 users, making it the most-watched, single-game sports event ever online, according to data provided by Omniture and mDialog, surpassing any previously reported record.
