NCAA Coaches: Bribing Players

It's just sickening how the FBI is doing the NCAA's job for them when it comes to this and the NCAA still can't be bothered to act with any sort of efficacy or timeliness.

I frankly don't even understand it. Business or bureaucracy, you'd think once the freakin' FBI got involved the NCAA would wake up a little and get their act together.

It's outrageous and it's disheartening to love a sport where the status quo is very clearly mired in corruption and the governing body doesn't seem to care.

NCAA has no subpoena power. FBI does.

Really not a lot more complicated than that.
That is a good point but could not the NCAA call the FBI and ask them if they can look at the documents they obtained in their wiretaps of college coaches. I do not know if the FBI could turn that information over to the NCAA or not. It certainly would help the NCAA in cleaning up college basketball.

I understand but given that this stuff is being presented right out in the public for all to see, the NCAA really needs to find a way to streamline and expedite their review and punishment process. We're watching these teams head to the Dance and we know that they paid for some of their star players.

The amount of time that it takes for due process for NCAA penalties is a joke. You aren't depriving someone of their freedom by removing them from a college sports coaching job or preventing them from playing "amateur athletics." The NCAA is getting their investigative and evidentiary work done for them and still they manage to be hamstrung by their own rules.

disband the NCAA, create a new governing body. Make allowing total transparency to this organization (including honest access to coaches and players) a qualification for membership which would be required to participate in contests with other members.

We might as well have an open auction for college coaches to buy college athletes' services, where the highest bidder gets the player, for however long they are in college, and the player's option is to take the money or else not play the sport in college.
