The ‘NCAA Football’ Return Checklist: the 5 things that have to happen

The bad news: it’s going to take a while. The good news: it’s probably going to happen eventually.

NCAA Football 14 entered the world on July 9, 2013.

It turned out to be the last release of EA Sports’ college football franchise. Later that summer, in Ed O’Bannon’s case against the NCAA, a federal judge ruled it was an antitrust violation to have a video game that featured players’ likenesses without paying those players for their use. The NCAA wasn’t about to allow that, fearing player payment by a third party might some day lead a court to force colleges to pay players themselves.

Without schools willing to appear in the game and with the NCAA not letting college athletes take money for appearing, EA had no game to make.

Fans have spent the years since then clamoring for the return of a game that can’t possibly return until a handful of key things happen. Here’s where those dominoes stand.

Online Dynasty vets, do you remember if there's a way to switch teams?

My league is going to have someone briefly switch and make the CPU lose to ensure a user vs user NC game. We did it ages ago, but I can't remember if you had to retire to do it. I thought you could have the commish switch someone to another team, but we can't find that setting.

As far as I know, I think you have to retire. But the last time we had someone retire due to not being able to load OD, he wasn’t able to join back in. I think it the servers were on the fritz that whole weekend, though. Good luck.

Thanks. We ended up retiring and it worked, I just thought there was a way to stay in, but you may be right.

The dynasty that @jwinslow was talking about has 2 open spots right now. We are looking to fill those before the next season starts. This is a fun and competitive dynasty. We are advancing at about 48 to 72 hours but are flexible. If you have any interest, let us know.

Got the game for Christmas which I play while I elliptical...Happy to report I'm 28 and 0 after two years in Dynasty so I haven't let my promises go to crap.

Few things... it's so easy to run in this game and it's obnoxiously easy to throw INTs. Like weird how can they cover 2 people with 1 player kind of INTs.

Fun stuff though!

Just wait until the other team's 170 pound RB stiff arms your 290 pound lineman down the field for 8 yards.

They make sliders for that.

They do but they never worked that well for that in my experience. I still had DTs catching me from behind.

This may be the saddest video game tragedy ever because this game was getting better each year when it comes to game play. By now NCAA 21 probably would cause a divorce for me as much as I used to play the series.
