NCAA (Not Caring About Anyone)

As we all know - the NCAA adopted a rule this year saying that kick returns that are fair caught between the 1 and 25 yard line result in the ball being placed at the 25. The justification used was "player safety." The result: Kick returns down by about 20%

So ok, looks like the goal was accomplished. Take a bow NCAA, nothing terrible resulted from this new policy. Relax and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

But oh no:

NCAA national coordinator of officials Rogers Redding has said the Football Rules Committee probably will consider more changes to kickoff rules next year with the objective of reducing returns or making them less likely to result in injury.

Pretty soon we're just going to have sure handed TE's back on Kick Returns simply for fair catches.

Maybe the ref could just walk out to the 20-yard-line and hand the QB the ball. (After carefully wiping it down with an antibacterial solution, of course. Can't be too careful about germs, ya' know?)

what if we all just agree that Bama is the champ at the beginning of the season, and eliminate the games completely? Boom, way less injuries.

If they want to just eliminate the kickoff, why don't they......just.....eliminate.....the kickoff?

That would erase 7 points from the TTUN game.

Just make a rule that if the ball gets kicked into the air, the team starts at the 25. If it is squibbed or onside, then it is live. Yes that eliminates a Ginn factor. But would a team seriously kick in-bounds to someone like Ginn nowadays? Pussification football for everyone, except HS, JV, and pee wee leagues.

I did hear/read/see one suggestion that seemed a fair way to eliminate kickoffs, but keep the "scoring team has a chance to get the ball back" aspect that the onside kick opens up: Scoring team gets the ball 4th and 15 at the 35. They can run a play to try and pick up the first down, or just punt.

I'd still keep the kickoffs like normal, but that seemed a reasonable solution.
