The 2001 Hurricanes said "what up huskers?! lol", then the 2002 Buckeyes was all "You m'fers can't be serious"

2001 Hurricanes - eked out a win against VA Tech. Lackluster game against BC.

2002 Buckeyes - four point win vs. Cincy. Five point win vs. Wiscy. Six point win vs. Penn State. Four point win vs. Purdue. OT win vs. Illinois. Five point win vs. Michigan. And the kicker, the OT win vs. Miami which to this day is still terribly controversial.

1995 Nebraska - Beat four top-ten teams by an average of 31 points. Not one game closer than 14 points all season. Demolished Florida in the most lopsided national championship game ever.

So yes, I'm serious.

...and a whole bunch of sub-par bowl games for Nebraska since then.

Four top ten teams? Are those the rankings when they played or after the season?

Oh, and by the way, 2002 Buckeyes won 14 games that season. How many did the Huskers win?

I wonder how many NFL guys were on that Huskers team...because i'm pretty sure there was a record number of NFL picks on the '02 Buckeyes.

There was a lot less parity back on '95 too

Like beating VA Tech in 1996?
Like winning the National Championship in 1997?
Like beating Tennessee in 1999?
Like spanking Northwestern in 2000?
Like playing for another National Championship in 2001? (and getting trounced, of course)
Like beating Sparty in 2003?
Like beating Michigan in 2005?
Like beating Clemson in 2008?
Like beating Arizona in 2009?

Eight bowl wins including one national championship, played for another championship and lost, and that time span includes the worst decade of football in 40 years. I can think of about 100 teams in D1 that would take that as a "whole bunch of sub-par bowl games."

Now, if you want to focus on our losses to Ole Miss, Auburn, Arizona (1999), Miami (flat embarrassing) and Washington this last December (also inexcusably embarrassing), then sure, that's sub-par. Or if you want to talk about the fact that we didn't even go to bowl games twice in the Callahan Era, yes, that's definitely sub-par. But even including all of that, even knowing that's our "dark age" of Husker football, I'd still say that's pretty good.

The entire defense from the 1995 played in the NFL. The entire O Line, several of the skill position players, Berringer (our backup QB) was set for a high draft position before dying in a small plane crash.

But who cares? The number of NFL players on your roster doesn't mean a thing in college. The game is so different that the question is moot. Tommie Frazier was one of the greatest college QBs of all time and he had no prayer of playing in the NFL.

Thank you for asking. That would be final polls.

Florida ended up #2. We beat them 62-24 to win the title.
Colorado ended up #5. We beat them 44-21.
Kansas State ended up #7. We beat them 49-25.
Kansas ended up #9. We beat them 41-3.
