During the 90's Ohio State had five 10+ win seasons & multiple top 5 finishes. They had 3 single loss seasons.

During the 00's Nebraska had two 5 win seasons & only lost fewer than 4 games twice (one 3 loss and a single 2 loss season). They finished .500 or worse three times.

The 90's Buckeyes were a hair away from multiple titles. The 00's Huskers were a hair away from being irrelevant.

The 90s Huskers won three titles and were a missed field goal away from a fourth. Nebraska played in three straight MNC games and four out of five. Ohio State didn't even play for a title in the 90s.

Meanwhile, OSU played for three MNCs in the 2000s, winning one, while Nebraska played for one, losing the only time it played.

Nebraska finished in the top ten seven times in the 90s, OSU finished in the top ten three times. In the 2000s OSU finished in the top ten eight times, Nebraska once.

Our 90s winning percentage was five points higher than yours in the 2000s. Your winning percentage was eleven points higher in the 1990s than ours in the 2000s. You're going to quibble over 11 points here, five points there? More power to you.

Pointing out the silliness of your comparison is hardly quibbling.

Quibbling would be taking your exact words at face value...

"Ten years ago we were above you guys by as much as you're above us right now."

...Ten years ago we were coming out of a season in which Miami frog stomped the Huskers in the BCS title game & into one where those same Hurricanes lost to the Buckeyes in the title game.

How much 'above' Ohio State was Nebraska in 2001 again?


Nebraska had a run for the ages in the 90's but the Buckeyes of that same decade were a hell of a lot to that level than the Huskers of the past ten years have been to that of Ohio State's teams of the same period.

If you want to make a comparison between relationship between Nebraska & Ohio State in the 80's vs the 00's...have at it, the juxtaposition is a much closer parallel.

And if you want to take my EXACT words, ten years ago we finished eighth in the country. You were unranked.

Last year you finished fifth. We were 20th.

I think that's sounds about right. Overall probably not that close(osu overall better),but the 95 huskers throw a curveball in the mix,since they are probably the greatest college football team ever assembled.

Certainly we were in the toilet for the bulk of the 2000s and have yet to recover, I'm not going to deny that. We had several great teams back in the day, but those days are long gone, sadly. We have a lot of work to do.


But hey - we can all agree that USC sucks, amirite? :biggrin:

So where does that leave us?

How many top five teams did Ohio State have in the 90's? Two
How many did Nebraska have in the 00's? Zero

90's Buckeye teams in the Top Ten? Five
00's Nebraska Top Ten teams? One

So half the 90's Buckeyes were in the top ten while half the 00's Nebraska teams were outside of the Top 25.

While you're stressing that Nebraska had a stronger decade in the 90's than Ohio State did in the 00's (which is not being argued)...you completely ignore just how much worse the 00's Huskers were than their 90's Buckeye counterparts.
