Word is he was told to expect an offer on 9/1...as was McMullen, Perry and Washington.
Quick question for anyone who can answer. I recently read an article on Rivals, that I was directed to, saying they have changed the rule on the date where colleges can send out written offers starting with the 2012 class. You now can't send out written offers until the August right before their senior season, according to the article.

This is probably better suited for a recruiting tidbits discussion thread, but I see this creating more headaches than it solves. It will fuel a lot more dramatic signing day commitments and probably lead to more Pryor situations which drag on after signing day.

New NCAA Recruiting Rules Hurt Athletes - Black Shoe Diaries

I think this is a really good idea for many reasons.
1. Coaches will now have a longer period of time to evaluate kids. I think it is getting out of hand when kids are told they will receive an offer before they even complete their junior season.
2. Now kids can't mail in their junior or senior season because they have an offer. Also kids may be forced to keep their academics in order to receive offers.
3. More late bloomers, gamers and ballers (Verlon Reed) will have a chance to get bigger offers over the combine/work out warriors that shine during the combine/camp atmosphere.

I think they should get rid of the one NLOID idea too as that circus has run its course. Multiple NLOID would be a welcome change.

Recruiting is always a numbers game, and the math just got a little harder for USC - ESPN

New rule in place?

An NCAA committee said it will back a proposal to prohibit making scholarship offers to recruits before July 1 in the summer between their junior and senior years in high school. If passed, the rule would apply to all sports.

How would this affect the recruiting game in football?

Currently, coaches can offer a football recruit in writing no earlier than Sept. 1 of their junior year. This rule means schools would have to wait 10 months longer to offer football scholarships.

This could have a big impact on teams like Texas that recruit very aggressively early in the process. Typically, the Longhorns have a huge junior day the weekend after national signing day (Feb. 2), and that's when they begin to officially offer juniors. But February is almost six months before the new proposal would allow programs to offer kids.

It will be interesting to watch the developments of this potential new rule.

Guess what...we just got a verbal from a 2012 class kid who had only a verbal offer since the written one can't be sent out until Sept 1. Anyone worried about the sincerity of the commitment? I'm not.

Kids will still commit when they're ready and schools will accept commitments of verbal offers. Kids decommit from written offers all the time, and schools yank written offers, so the fact that an offer is verbal or written won't change where the kid ultimately goes until he actually signs the LOI.

11W -- “NCAA Division 1 Council Approves 10th Full-Time Assistant, Earlier Official Visits & Other Recruiting Reform Measures”

Lots of big changes here. This was of particular interest:

The NCAA has also made a move to do away with grayshirting, blueshirting and greenshirting, too, by reducing the number of prospects who can accept aid in the fall semester to 25 players. In short, schools can no longer oversign by delaying a prospect's enrollment.

Not completely sure what "blueshirting" is, but greenshirting is a phrase used for players who are "early enrollees" in January-March, so I guess they're doing away with that now in preparation for an early signing period?

First I had heard of it too:

Meanwhile, blueshirts represent the newest loophole for FBS programs to accumulate depth while not affecting their annual numbers. Like grayshirt recruits, blueshirts are counted toward the next season’s scholarship total.

There is one distinct difference, however. Unlike grayshirts, a blueshirt is able to enroll and participate in team events in the fall. This allows programs to get the best of both worlds: FBS schools can delay a scholarship for the following year, allowing them to over-sign beyond the 25-scholarship limit, and get the use of a prospect immediately rather than waiting until the following spring.

The use of a blueshirt was first popularized by New Mexico State, which would support its numbers by enrolling prospects right after the beginning of the fall semester and then place them on scholarship. Tennessee has also embraced the use of blueshirts under coach Butch Jones.

NCAA allows schools to reimburse players for unofficial and official visits canceled due to coronavirus

The NCAA continues to open up their rulebook in order to deal with the coronavirus pandemic.

In an announcement made Friday evening, the organization issued a number of waivers to schools regarding expenses for student-athletes. The most notable of these includes allowing programs to reimburse recruits for expenses related to canceled official and unofficial visits.

Schools pick up the tab for official visits already but if there’s something like an extra family member coming along, seems like that can get reimbursed now. Unofficial visits are paid entirely by the players and their families themselves.

It remains to be seen how this reimbursement will work. Given the number of visits that take place during the coming weeks for spring football practice, it could add up to some sizable checks being cut either way.

“The NCAA Division I Council and its Coordination Committee recognize that the decisions they make must be grounded in the values of higher education and must reflect the realities of the challenges facing higher education. This is certainly magnified during this unprecedented period resulting from COVID-19,” said Grace Calhoun, chair of the Division I Council. “To that end, as an example, the Coordination Committee, acting on behalf of the Council, took timely action to address health and safety concerns among student-athletes, prospective student-athletes and coaches. The Coordination Committee identified other issues that lend themselves to full Council review and decision-making.”

While it doesn’t specifically apply to football, a vote on eligibility relief for spring/winter sports athletes will be held on March 30.

The NCAA has already halted all person-to-person recruiting until April 15. This has resulted in a dead period across all sports, including football.

The fact this is such a big headline only underscores that most people expect the NCAA to pull a dick move whenever possible.
