NCAA Tournament, the field of 65

Mountain West grossly over seeded, again. The only thing left is for Kansas State to run BYU off the floor.
Why do you think the Mountain West teams are overrated? Seems like they had a 3, 7, 8 and 11 seed and the 3 and 7 advanced one game. SDSU was facing a higher seed (and had a few mixed calls against them in the last 2 minutes) and UNLV was an 8-9 match-up which always goes either way. BYU loses to Kansas St., the 2 seed in the region and New Mexico... well they totally blew it. But, they held out for a round. Seems like they were seeded about right to me.

I'm sure I've learned the psychological explanation for it...but the technical wording slips my mind...

...but it seems to me that everyone's perspective is unconsciously affected by their bias...and if you've got an idea in your head already, everything you see is going to support it...

Personally, I think that at this point in the tournament...with everything that's already happened...whatever the committee's faults were really have very little to do with anything...

Alot of people out there look at us as a team with no bench and only 1 good player that carries us. IMO we have the best starting 5 in college basketball.

+ a lot. Our starting 5 can take out any team in the tourney. They just all need to show up and not get into foul trouble. Let them think we're nothing but ET. It will lead to their doom.

Confirmation bias mixed in with a little Tversky & Kahneman's Availability of Information heuristic... for those of you keeping score at home.

From 2007-09 BYU lost in the first round each year against a lower seed. They finally got thru the first round this year, in 2OT against a 10-seed. Last year, Utah was a 5 seed and lost to the 12 seed.

New Mexico just got bounced by an 11 seed in the second round, as a 3 seed. UNLV also lost in the first round against a lower seed.

Sweet 16 conference affiliation (number of bids)

Big Ten: 3 (5)
Big XII: 2 (7)
Big East: 2 (8)
SEC: 2 (4)
Atlantic 10: 1 (3)
ACC: 1 (6)
Mountain West: 0 (4)
West Coast: 1 (2)
PAC 10: 1 (2)
Ivy: 1 (1)
Missouri Valley: 1 (1)
Horizon: 1 (1)

All that talk about the Big East and Big XII - and 15 out of 65 total bids between them - and look where we are now. :bigten:

The ACC doesn't look so hot, either. Yeah, everyone talked about them being "down", but they gave them 6 bids, anyway.
