NCAA Tournament, the field of 65

Sweet 16 conference affiliation (number of bids)

Big Ten: 3 (5)
Big XII: 2 (7)
Big East: 2 (8)
SEC: 2 (3)
Atlantic 10: 1 (3)
ACC: 1 (6)
Mountain West: 0 (3)
West Coast: 1 (2)
PAC 10: 1 (2)
Ivy: 1 (1)
Missouri Valley: 1 (1)
Horizon: 1 (1)

All that talk about the Big East and Big XII - and 15 out of 65 total bids between them - and look where we are now. :bigten:

I commented in another thread about how seeing the Big East decimated in this tournament made me smile. With so many years of hearing about the ACC (Dook, UNC, Wake, blah blah blah...) Seeing that 1 of 6 remaining makes me happy, too

WHDH-TV - Autistic teen picks perfect March Madness bracket

GLENVIEW, Ill. -- Alex Hermann knows the game of basketball.
He devours the plays, analysis and stats.
After 48 playoff games, his bracket selection is a thing of perfection.
"I memorize all the numbers of all the games they played against each other," Alex said.

I heard about this on the radio yesterday. Valenti (Detroit radio guy) said something along the lines of "poor kid, he's on cloud nine right now and doesn't even realize that he doesn't stand a chance because he picked Purdue to win it all."

West Virginia just advanced to the Elite Eight and has faced a low seed (any team seeded 9-16) in each of their three games. If Kentucky and Baylor win tonight and tomorrow they will have done the same. If that doesn't tell you the seeding was messed up, I don't know what does.

Bob Knight's complaint that "basketball people" aren't in the room setting the brackets looks more prescient every day. Anybody can look at numbers and make judgments, but it's apparent numbers don't tell the entire story. Former coaches, etc., would be able to look deeper at the teams than AD's and university administrators. Then again, we all know the tournament - much like the bowls - isn't just about finding a champion. It's about creating attractive match ups and making money.

When I saw New Mexico got a 3 seed that told me a lot about the seeding process. That suggested they were one of the top 12 teams in the country. Really?

and villanova a 2-seed. villanova: a top 8 team? really? oh, that's right. they play in the big east, which is why notre dame "earned" a 6-seed in under two weeks.

Frustration...we went from being in the toughest bracket to only having the 5, 6 and 9 seeds between us and the Final Four. I really thought we'd get there. :(

Still, we had a helluva season overall and I love my Buckeyes. :osu:

I'm trying to decide if now's a good time to join the Duke bandwagon, or whether or not I should wait to see if they win a couple more games. [/sarcasm]

If you wait until they win a couple more you can save time with your online shopping and get Yankee WS t-shirts from last year while you get your Duke Final Four shirts from this year. It's all about being efficient.

The Bucks have lost to 3/4's of the Final Four's teams by no more than 8(Butler minus ET) points in either of the 3 games and a grand total of 17 points. If Sparty doesn't make it to the Final Four the only interest I'll have in the games is seeing the outcome in the highlights on ESPN. The taste of yesterday's defeat is so bitter I can barely even stand watching any more of the games.
