NCState Safety Maddox on the Buckeyes

Where are people getting that notion that we "dropped" NC State? We had only scheduled them for the home/away series, and nothing more. Just like our upcoming home/away series with Texas, Syracuse, USC, and Miami. Plus we're going out to Washington State (in 2009, I think) to finish up the home/away agreement with them (they played us at The Shoe in 2002). We don't play 3-games series with anyone.

sorry Mililani i used the word dropped, when i should have used the word finished, as in (we finised the home and away with NC State, and pick up Texas for a home and away series.

Oh, OK. By the way, good on ya for using "home and away" instead of the incorrect "home and home" that most others use for this type of series (bring that dead horse out! ).

If someone's not willing to look at anything more than the last two years, he shouldn't undertake to make pronouncements about a program's historical trends. OSU plays the same kind of OOC schedule that all non-pussy big name programs in solid conferences play: most games at home, most games against smaller programs, with normally one tough one thrown in. Does anyone see Oklahoma or Florida traveling across the country to play at power programs' stadiums in the majority of their non-conference schedule? Of course not, that would be stupid. And it'll be a cold day in hell before you'll see OSU playing a DI-AA school (a la Richmond).

What gets me about these nimrods from other schools who talk about Ohio State not wanting to play road games is that they just have no common sense or the ability to add. What does Ohio State get by playing a road game - does anyone know how much Ohio State gets? By playing at home - Ohio State is going to generate somewhere in the $5 million ball park just on ticket sales. This does not include concessions or parking. Does not include the good will generated to the alums who get a ticket that would not otherwise. And how much business does it generate in the university area that would not be happening.

The money generated goes to support those non-revenue sports that would not exist otherwise. This gives an opportunity to some student/athletes for an education that they would not have otherwise. We do have one of the largest athletic programs in the country if not the largest. Ohio State will sell out Ohio Stadium regardless who they play. So, if we can not get some people to come because we do not guarantee a return - so be it. It is more important to maintain our whole athletic program than make some people feel good about playing in their stadium. I can remember the early 80's when Florida State came to Ohio Stadium twice with no return dates when Bobby Bowden was building his program.

To me, unless it is another named program (USC, Texas, Alabama) then there is no reason for a return date.

You know, with all of this talk about "Luckeyes" I was thinking of a new recruiting strategy. I mean, since we are lucky all of the time, we should just go out and recruit all of the former lottery winners as they are lucky people. We could also bring in any fuggly looking dude that is married to a super model since he is obviously lucky.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Then with our team of lucky mo-foes, we would be unstoppable. Think about. On the opening kick off the entire coverage team would fall and break their legs (due to our luck) and our 45 year old return man (super lotto winner) could just walk into the end zone un-touched.

Isn't it good to be lucky?

We are just going to have to get used to the "lucky" thing. If we keep playing teams close we are always going to be "lucky" not good. It doesnt matter to the media if we go 50-2 and win 4 NC we will still be "lucky" and had the better team, while Oklahoma and Miami had the better players. HAHAHAHA We know its a load of shit but thats how it is with the media.

There was an article written on this at the time. San Diego State was pumped to have OSU play on their field, but their proceeds from a game in Ohio Stadium doubled their athletic department budget for the year, and that was too big a carrot for them to turn away from.

If I remember correctly they couldn't even cover the fee (400K) they had to give to OSU. So the option to sell the game back at 2 million sure was attractive to them and they approached OSU about it.
