Nebraska Cornhuskers (corn)

Troll on: Iowa bar stocks fridge with free beer for Nebraska fans… when the 0-4 Cornhuskers win first game

Leave it to a rival to beat a team while it’s waaay down.

Under former starting quarterback Scott Frost, Nebraska and its very loyal fan base entered the 2018 season with sky-high expectations for the first year of the prodigal son’s ballyhooed return to Lincoln as head coach. Through four games — a fifth, the opener, was canceled because of Mother Nature — things couldn’t have possibly started off worse for the Cornhuskers as they stand at 0-4, the first time the storied program has lost the first four games of a season since the year World War II ended. Stretching back to last season, NU has lost eight in a row, the second-longest current losing streak in the country. It’s also the first time they’ve ever lost eight games in a row.

With that as a backdrop, enter the Iowa fan base. Or, more specifically, Barley’s Bar.

Earlier this past week, it was reported that the Council Bluffs, Iowa, drinking establishment had stocked a locked refrigerator full of Budweiser beer to be given away, free of charge, at the bar close to the Iowa-Nebraska border to Big Red fans when (if?) their beloved Cornhuskers finally claim their first win of the Frost Era.

Iowa bar unlocks locker of free beer for Nebraska fans after first Huskers win

Taking a page right out of the Cleveland Browns playbook, a bar in Iowa celebrated the first Nebraska win of the season by ceremoniously unlocking a case full of beer to distribute to Nebraska fans at no cost.

Barley’s, a bar in Council Bluffs, Iowa, handed out free Budweiser to Nebraska fans gathering to watch the game against the Minnesota Gophers on Saturday. The bar started the promotion in an effort to “being Iowa Nice,” as the bar is a common gathering point for Nebraska fans in the state of Iowa. Naturally, the case was full of Budweiser in bottles of red and white, Nebraska’s colors.

Next time you meet someone who says they're from Council Bluffs, Iowa (and it is going to be very rare, because NGAF about Council Bluffs, Iowa), ask them how it feels to be from Counciltucky, Iowa.

People in Counciltucky come across the Missouri all the time to MY hometown to work. Tear up my roads, eat my food, then got the nerve to talk smack?!?

Read it and weep, b**ches:

I'm amused that the suffix "tucky" is used as a pejorative in states that don't border it too.

Also, I'm going to venture a guess that Nebraska, on the whole, has played in tougher bowl games than I-O-Way.

You know the best thing about the state of Iowa? Leaving that mofo.
Moms lives in Indiana. If I could bypass the entire state of Iowa without loss of time, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

My mom used to live in Colorado and I made a few treks from OH. Iowa and Nebraska both suck ass to drive through on I-80. Both seem to have a time continuum issue. At least Iowa has the largest truck stop in the US, as opposed to the world's largest pair of overalls in Grand Island, NE.

I usually did 70 to Denver... but its about the same.
Indiana is the worst imo. Every time the truckers take over passing lane ... and dont pass. Doesnt happen anywhere else... no lane usage laws? Not enforced? No idea.
Kansas and Nebraska are so straight you can fall asleep and wake up going straight like Chevy Chase.
