Game Thread Nebraska @ Ohio State - 11/03/18, 12:00PM (FOX)

These two quotes summarize this game and season for me.

I honestly dread Buckeye games this year. Never thought I'd say that in a million years.

Something is very, very wrong inside the WHAC
This season has been a slog, that's for sure. It started with the Zach Smith crap and has carried right into the season.

I don't hold out much hope for turning things around this season. I'll be shocked if we don't drop at least two more games. I'm more intrigued by what Urban does after the season. When the defense sunk us in 2013, he acted swiftly, made a great hire and had an excellent defense for the next couple of years. Here we are with the same issues...undisciplined play, a lousy secondary and a defense that can't tackle. Hopefully he cuts loose the dead weight and makes another couple of good hires, because they are squandering a lot of talent.

Has been a consistent issue since 2015. First on offense, then defense, now both.

Went for a run and took some time to cool off....Mostly repeats but I will go at it a little differently:

The good:
  • We won after turning the ball over 3 consecutive times leading to 2 touchdowns
  • Brendan White...brought the attitude this team is missing
  • Dobbins and Weber running hard
  • The jumbo package....about fricking time
  • The punt block
  • Dru
  • More D 3 and outs than I can remember in a game all season
The bad:
  • WR's disappearing....kind of like past years
  • Not fair catching kickoffs
  • Not spying Martinez
  • Leaving the middle of the field open on defense....again
  • tackling tackling tackling
  • Lack of consistent pressure by the dline
  • Sheffield not knowing where the ball is
  • Soft defense at the end of the game
  • Soft coverage at the goal line
  • Head scratching play calling at important times....lateral runs in the redzone....three straight passes when we should be running clock
The ugly:
  • Turnovers, turnovers, turnovers...
  • BIG Referees
  • Targeting....revamp it or get it the fuck out of the game
  • Watching another 3:45 minute commercial laden game on FOX....
  • Lack of leaders/emotion/physicality/swagger/attitude
I fear if this team doesn't find some swagger, Michigan is going to plunger us and MSU is going to beat us as well.....

Your ugly is where I'm at too... Darron Lee said it best that this team lacks swagger and I agree.

Knock me all you want but I wish we could see Tate more. He doesn't lose, He's cocky, he makes plays, and he has swagger. There's something to it IMO that we don't have fiery captain.

Give me more of Brendan, Keandre, and Tate.

Yeah, team looks like they're not worried about losing. As in they literally don't care if they win or lose.

Another argument (and I'll stop after this cause i think it's just a clear disagreement) against Tate is that this offense still doesn't have a clear offensive identity or playcalling rhythm.

Ideally you'd currently be in a position to be working him in as a wrinkle. Adding Tate now, though, only complicates what is already a muddled offense still trying to find itself 9 games in.

The offense feels like 2015 to me.. where we just dont seem comfortable with a pocket passer.

IMO we need a mobile QB in this offense. Its built for one and it's just not a great fit when we cant run the QB.

Which tells me we have too many cooks in the kitchen. Kevin Wilson coordinated one of the best offenses of the modern era with very similar players. He had a Heisman QB (Bradford), two 1000 yard backs and a deep WR corp. No reason these guys shouldn't be duplicating, or at least approaching that.

Whoa, stop right there. What I’ve seen of Martell brings back frightening images of Belisari - talented athlete who played without discipline, tried to hit the home run of every play

It probably doesn't need to be echoed but, yeah, I hate watching this team. I'm not gonna get mad at the kids. But I am mad at the coaches who get paid exorbitant amounts of money to put those (very talented) kids in a position to win.

Took my wife on a lunch date and the game was on, end of first half. About killed our appetites.

I'm sort of glad we got the win but if we lose at MSU and in The Game, which at this moment seems the most plausible outcome, then I will almost wish we had lost this one, too, just to make sure everybody got the message that this status quo is not gonna cut it.

Because getting absolutely embarrassed by Purdue and having a bye week to stew on it should have lit a fire under all our coaches' asses, and instead it seems more like it turned on the leather seat warmers in their luxury cars.
