Nebraska vs tOSU, Noon ET, Oct. 24, FOX

It could be first game rust from Teague and Sermon. Dobbins looked mediocre against FAU then turned it on against Cincy.

Agreed that it might be first game "rust", but if so it's OL rust, not RB

Still had passing efficiency > 236 with no threat of a running game. If the OL turns the corner after game one like they did last year, it won't matter if PSU plays perfectly next week (which they probably will in spite of today's complete 2020 performance)

9. Ohio State had only 3 penalties for 15 yards, while Nebraska had 8 penalties for 90 yards. Nebraska had four targetings - two called and upheld; one called and reversed; one obvious but not called that led to a concussion for Chris Olave. I understand that Scott Frost is trying to make Nebraska a tougher, meaning, more aggressive team, but headhunting isn't the way to do it in this era of college football.

Eff you, Joel Klatt.

“He is doing everything he can to go low,” Klatt said. “I know it looks bad, but he’s trying to under the head or neck area. He’s trying to lead with his shoulder. Hey college football, what do you want him to do? What do you want him to do? He can’t go two-hand touch on that. That is a poor call and now Nebraska’s defensive secondary is decimated.”

We've been saying the same thing for years. How many targeting calls have gone against Ohio State where we look at it and say that he's TRYING to get out of the way and he's TRYING to hit the guy properly, but <continue excuse here>. The rule says something like "forceful contact to the head or neck area". It doesn't need to be helmet-to-helmet. The rule doesn't say anything about "good intentions".

Joel Klatt, you're living dangerously close to Dan "BAD CALL!!!" Fouts.

Oline needs to gel. They weren't terrible in the pass pro, but damn we couldn't run the ball like we need to, and I am not counting Fields runs. Teague and Sermon might not have looked great but I am not sure any back would have today with the lack of holes.

I hope Combs gets the D solidified too, we didn't look great on that side of the ball at times, especially that first drive.

Fields is Heisman.

The running backs.
Teague looks like he can't do anything without a big hole. He just isn't very "special" right now. Still learning the position.
Serman started to get into a groove. Looked decent.
Chambers surprised me and looked like he has the talent to start.
The O-line was not creating holes today and that worries me. Next week will be a struggle.

My thoughts on the run game. It’s a numbers game. The RBs need to beat their man - they need to make a guy miss. That’s either by hitting a hole faster, eluding a tackle, or breaking a tackle. Master Teague looks like a momentum back - he gets ball, sees hole, hits hole. That’s what he is. He’s not going to create on his own. Sermon was supposed to provide the patience. Hopefully he can. Top end isn’t there, but he can run harder than he ran today. Teams daring Fields to run hopefully will pay off in the throw game.
