I wouldn't get rid of Dantonio just yet but he should clean house with the offensive staff like we did with the defensive staff last year
You weren't impressed with his rearrangement of the deck chairs on Titanic? I mean, the re-assignment of responsibilities among the offensive coaches?

Tressel played Tressel-ball with a few 3*s, a lot of 4*s, and his share of 5*s. That's not what is going on with Sparty, so the offense is limited BY INTENT, and then it is limited by recruiting, talent, and how effective the coaching staff develops players.

That style of play wins a ton of games. At the same time, if your running game gets limited, your defense gets leaky and exploited, you turn the ball over, or you have special teams breakdowns - and you find yourself down 2/+ scores - you are not built to come back by going to plan B.

Can Sparty be an Ohio State program (that starts with higher end talent and then tries to get them to play like it) or are they more of a Wisky (that starts with lower level talent, uses redshirts, develops players, and uses an identity to keep it rolling)? I think Sparty is way closer to Wisky than they are to Ohio State. There are historical, geographical, and practical reasons for that, but I sense that Dantonio succeeded in winning some big games and making the playoffs by maximizing the 3*/development route, but then tried to take the next step in elevating talent, but can't quite get there.

Main point is that Wisconsin knows what it is and isn't trying to be anything else. I'm not sure I know what Sparty is or is trying to be.

As to your question, Greyshirt, there is no good way to cope with it. All you can do is embrace the suck by predicting, expecting, and accepting that Dave Left on 3rd and 2 will result in a 2 yard loss because the other team and every fan in the stands with a modicum of knowledge knows it is coming, and take a degree of pride that you are in the group that knew what was going to happen.

One thing that may help, @Greyshirt - spend the rest of Dantonio's tenure trying to get MSU to wear alternates like the Jets were wearing on MNF last night, rather than the neon lettered yak placenta ya'll balled in a couple weeks back.

The horrific uniforms are designed to distract from the horrific offense, I think

As many on here may remember I am a Spartan Fan.

I am losing my mind over the weekly stress of how they play. Yes I realize this past weekend was a blow out but that was an anomaly.

You are the only fans that know how to deal with or have dealt with years of Tressel ball. And this is what I am faced with each and every week. And I am coming to the realization that Mike Tressel is the likely next coach (I have zero inside information......just a feeling) and I am coming to realize that the all Defense no Offense life is what I am looking at for the next 15 years.

Yes it wins, and Yes this is tons better than pre-Dantonio. But it wears on your soul at times. I am wondering what to do. I know this, I do not want to start losing all the time. So I am happy with the boring winning. It beats the hell out of Exciting loses.

I am also curious to see how tOSU holds up as the season progresses. The team has looked pretty solid so far. I do not know much about Day so it is curious to see how he holds up.

I have stepped up by tailgate drinking. Which has helped. And maybe that is the answer. The issue is that when the stress really hits in the second half the buzz is wearing off.

There once was a coach in Wisconsin. I didn't like him. Why? Because he stupidly exploited stupid rules for his own stupid gain. (Remember when the clock started when the ball was kicked, instead of when it was caught? A certain coach in Wisconsin had all 10 players WAY offsides at the kick, so there was no chance for a return. 5 seconds later and 5 yards later, he did it again. No chance for the opposition to score that half.) He also stupidly blamed a piece of paper for going for 2 when he was up big on a rival. Eff that guy.

Dantonio doesn't do that. Remember when M*ch*gan tried to "put a stake in" little brother? Then little brother was about to win by about 20. M*ch*gan scored their first touchdown near the end of the game. No big deal, right? Wrong. Dantonio marched his offense down the field and scored again. Why did he do it? He wanted to put a stake in them. That was his answer.

In his defense, wouldn't you be a colossal dickhead if your before picture looked like this? I know I would.

Thanks guys I am feeling much better. As long as the Spartans don't choke against NW for like the 1000th time then all will be back in place.

MSU is Wisky or Iowa when they are going good. I don't think MSU has the drive and willingness to ever be at OSU level of talent. Lots of reasons. One being the location of OSU helps with Recruiting the 4-5* players down South. The second is the money MSU is willing to spend on football is just not there. You need to be willing to commit loads of cash to the program and MSU is very cost conscious. I am OK with being a contender every few years and not having bad losses. It is just this style of play when not winning is brutality.

Oh and Dantonio is 8-7 his last 15 games. So that is also why many of us more zealous fans are getting pissed. It is fun when you are winning but completely sucks when you are not.

Also OSUK summed up what my buddies and I say all the time. This worked so well at tOSU with Tressel because he had NFL caliber talent on offense. So he was able to overcome his own conservative play calling with pure speed and talent. MSU does not have that level of talent so it has to be perfect to work.

Another stressful week. The whole first half was misery until the TD at t he end of the half. Then NW kind of folded.

I think the main issue with this style is it demands perfect execution regardless and if you do not have elite athletes it will not work if execution is not perfect offensively. But on the flip side it can work with average talent if execution is again perfect.

But it is a hard watch often.

On the flip side it beats watching your team get destroyed by Wisky. That was brutal. I do not know how that fan base can stand behind a coach that is getting paid that kind of money and consistently get its Asses kicked in big games. Especially going into the games they believe 100% they are better and will win.
