I've used Netflix in the Bay area for over 2 years on the 3 discs/month plan, and their service has deteriorated in the last 6-8 months. Basically, they control how many movies you can rent out each month (called "throttling"), so it's not truly unlimited rentals. 12-13 discs/month seems to the the average number for most people. Their service was great initially and my fiancee and I loved how many movies we could watch, but that's only how they rope you in. After 3-4 months of manic movie-watching we noticed that discs started arriving a LOT slower. Blockbuster isn't any better, which is why we haven't switched. I just found out about some other alternatives (like GreenCine) that I'm looking into. Do a Google for "Netflix throttle" and see how many hits you get. They even had a class action lawsuit against them earlier this year. I wouldn't have a problem with them if they said - up front - that you can only rent 12 discs/month for $19.99 or whatever, but to say you can have unlimited discs and that they arrive "in about one business day" is fraudulent marketing.

Netflix vs. Blockbuster Total Access

I've been a Netflix subscriber for a little under a year now, and I've been happy with it. I've seen the Blockbuster program, and it seems like it could be a better deal. What does everybody else think? Is there anyone here who subscribes to Total Access, and how do you like it?

Blockbuster Total Access is a great deal -- every mailed rental can be turned in at a store for another free rental (including new releases & video games), so you can basically have 6 rentals out at any time for $18/month (or 2 at a time for $10/month). You probably can't go too wrong with either program, though, since the competition between the two makes them both good deals.

I've found that Blockbuster takes longer in getting the next movie to you through the mail than did Netflix. Then again, I just started the Blockbuster deal, so maybe things will speed up. It's much better than Netflix in theory, b/c you have the option of not waiting for the mail and just returning to the store to get another movie.

My only problem has been that I tend to get things quite out of order in my queue (which is annoying when you get Disc 4 of a TV series before 1-3), but usually my DVDs arrive just 1-2 days after I get the email saying they've shipped.

Everything I could think of was on there. Granted, Adam Sandler movies aren't exactly "hard to find". :p

They did have "Something Wicked This Way Comes", wich surprised me. I thought that would be hard to find.
