New Board Feature - Arcade

Clarity

Look in the navigation bar at the top of each page below the BP logo. Arcade should appear between 'Calendar' and 'New Posts'.

It currently just has the default games and settings that come with it in there, I'm in the process of trying to convert our 3 sports games (Field Goal Challenge, Home Run Derby, and Shooting Hoops) over to the new format. At which time they will no longer be announcements on the board. I'll probably also snag a few other 'classic' titles. Pacman, etc., but right now my primary interest are the three titles that are actually somewhat relevant to our focus here.

Little web games like these aren't everyone's bag, but installing a major hack to the software like this is a good learning experience for me, and the little games that I installed before seem to have been well received. You'll find this to be a very robust system, with score tracking, challenges, even trophies for the best player in each game.

You'll notice 'Tetris Champion' in the postbit (area above this post) to the upper right. That was difficult for me to get since no one has ever played in there before, lol, but it serves to demonstrate the level of integration with the forum software.

So feel free to explore and play, it appears to be fully functional, and I smell no smoke.

My next project is an equally integrated live chat system. Looks to be a good piece of software, I'm just waiting for it to be finalized.

Alas...

Must be too sophisticated for my 5 yr old Win95(2) (64) system. Games won't load up. Shows a little square {circle.square, triangel) up in left corner. I notice same sort of things on some Bucknuts picture posts, not all. Funny thing is when I backspace away from the item, I get a black screen with a loading up view which flashes by quickly, but nothing then happens.I have played legit Asteroids on other sites in last year or two.
Great idea tho.

Shouldn't be. Could be something as simple as needing to update to the current version of Flash, which you can do here;

http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash

Chances are with an older version of windows, you have an older Flash player as well. I'm making a lot of assumptions here, but there's no good reason why these games shouldn't work on most computers. The game files are actually smaller in size than an average image.

Thanks

Downloaded Flash 7, which seems to make it work, mostly OK. (Can't figure out how to play worm for the life of me. Neither the mouse buttons or my arrow keys make anything happen. Have a perfect string of zeros on that one :)

I was able to use the arrow keys, if you're using the ones on your keypad, you may have to turn NumLock off or something. Not sure there, but I'm glad the new Flash did the trick.

I've already been caught playing by my boss this morning. :lol: I sit with my back to the back door and he sneaked in and was watching me over my shoulder. I was about to freak when I noticed him, but he goes "Where did you get that?" I told him it was on a football message board, and he just started gushing about the first Atari and how it was great but didn't turn out to be much more than a fad and how much he used to love to play Breakout, etc. etc. Close call. :lol:
