I have downloaded a few songs, I should have the entire cd tonight:

The Line Begins to Blur - lots of distortion, raw and aggressive. Great song!

The Hand That Feeds - I like it alot, although I agree that it is the most commercial song that NIN has released to date.

Right Where it Belongs - slow song. Awesome ending where the music amps up with crowd noise.

Only - Probably my favorite song that I have heard so far. Kind of reminds me of "Down in It".

I will post more later...

I do not in anyway condone downloading music.

But if I were the type to do that, and if used usenet, I would get it in any of the following groups (as I am not that kind of person, I won't, but again, if I were, I would go for the gothic-industrial group as it likely has less headers than the others. . .):

alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.complete_cd
alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.2000s
alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.gothic-industrial
alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.heavy-metal
alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.stoner

You have to use a newsgroups program, generally this one: http://www.forteinc.com/agent/download.php .

Then you have to have access to newsgroups - all ISPs (that I have ever heard of, though maybe not aohell) provide access- usually either news.(yourisp).com or nntp.(your isp).com. You may need to use your username and password from your account (same as your main e-mail or whatever usually). Just look up newsgroups or usenet in your help area for your ISP. . .

Anyway, there are a bunch of groups like alt.music or alt.i.like.tuna or anything you can imagine. These groups contain message board postings. Some of the groups have binary attachments which can be downloaded as files. For things like mp3s you can save them straight to mp3 files. For bigger files they will be split up into rar files with par file fillers.

That's the deal in a nutshell.

btw - this is old school stuff from before the www - it is the origin of sites like this one, in a way. . .

"The Fragile" could have been a great single CD. It just had too much fat on it. I think if you take the best 60 minutes of the 2 Discs, it's comparable to "The Downward Spiral".

Reznor was just in a different place in life when he wrote "The Fragile" (Versus where he was making "Downward") Wealth and success tend to take the edge off. Age tends to mellow the soul as well. It's not surprising the more recent music isn't as aggressive.

I'd rather his sound evolve to what he's really feeling rather than him rehashing the same old stuff and pretending to still be as pissed off as he was in his twenties - Like Korn for example.

Reznor talks about the leak of the new CD on the official web site. Obviously, he's not real happy about it.

Alright, I have had the new cd since Saturday and I have listened to it exclusively. To anyone hoping for another "The Downward Spiral", you will be disappointed. I would say that it is along the same lines as "The Fragile". I do not expect the cd to be a commercial success as the only other "radio friendly" song is maybe "Everyday is Exactly the Same". There are some very good songs on the cd. As I mentioned earlier, I love "Only". I also love the first track "All the Love in the World". There are a few very hard tracks. Another favorite is "Love is Not Enough". Overall, I am very impressed with the new songs. Like all of my favorite cds, I wasn't sure about it at first listening, but each time I listen to it, I like it more and more. I hope to write up a track by track review when I have more time...
