New Offense Unveiled - what did you think?

Yesterday, we saw some dramatic changes in the offense, especially early in the game. A completely new base formation seemingly with Ginn lined up in a half slot/half RB position. Ginn in the backfield. A lot of option being run.

What did you guys think?

To me, it seemed like they were forcing getting the ball to Ginn instead of trying to do it in the flow of the game. That, coupled with essentially a new offense being run, led to a huge lack of consistency IMO and a whole lot of 3 and outs. Between the 3 and outs and Purdue's long drives, our poor defense was getting run ragged.

I have a feeling we are going to have the same problem against UM that we did last year, a dog tired defense vs their well rested offense.

Did anyone get a sense if we changed schemes on offense back to normal at halftime or if it just started working better?

I am debating not going to the scUM game because I know what is coming. We are going to get our asses kicked.

The option, is not the answer. Troy Smith is not the answer. Even Ginn is not the answer. 4 fucking turnovers sure isn't the answer, especially when two of them are inside the opponets fucking 5 yardline. The WR's can't catch balls that hit them in the hands? What the hell is that all about? This is the biggest bunch of chokers we have ever had at Ohio State. Their is no fucking way the tallent is this bad, yet we find a way to lose every damn time we can. The MSU game must have been and accident. I was hopeful we found something, but it was fools gold. IMO their is absoultely no fucking way we beat scUM, but that is the only thing that could keep this from being an absoulute failure of a season.

We do not have a defense that can get pressure on the QB period. Simon Fraiser has been a HUGE disappointment this year. The D-Line was owned yesterday, and scUM's O-line is better, their WRs are better, their RB is better, and their QB is at least as good. WE NEED TO PUT PRESSURE ON THE QB!!!!! That was absoultely pathetic. You have an injured statue of a QB back in the pocket and he goes 6 for 6? How the hell do you let that happen. Then Youboty tries to be a hero instead of taking his assignment on the corner blitz. Underwood wasn't much better when he was suppose to play three deep and didn't take his assignment.

This one pisses me off more than most of them, becaue their is absoultely no way we should have lost that game, but 4 Turnovers, no pressure on the QB, and undisiplined "I'm going to be a hero" mentality blew it.

Pathetic!

Whats this the third new offense we have seen in 10 games? Same old shitty results, a little over 300 yds of total offense and 17 points. Whoopty fucking do.

I went golfing yesterday and Tivo'd their sorry asses and I am glad I did. 30+ years of OSU football for me and this is the first time I can ever remember voluntarily missing watching a game. The way I see it if this coaching staff can't do any better than this with the (supposed) talent we have then fuck them, they aren't worth my time.

I can understand struggeling if their is some trend toward improvement and the kids are playing hard, but this shit is just old and tired. 10 games into a season and we are still dicking around and trying to "find" ourselves offensively. Ditto the coaching on the defensive side of the ball 10 games in and still haven't quite figured out that whole "tackeling" thing.

I'm seriously debating watching The Game live or Tivo. I don't see any way shape or form we beat scUM this year based on the results of the two teams up to this point. The fact that rivalry games are funny business and the team with the most to lose usually does, is the only ray of hope I see on this one.

Dude.. nobody could get this group to win a game right now. The wide receivers don't catch the ball, the QBs make crappy reads, we have no top-tier RB talent...

This year is not on the coaches.. they are doing what they have to do, changing things to get the ball to people who have shown they can make plays, and after everyone BITCHED about getting the ball to Ginn, this guy is BITCHING we gave it to him TO MUCH?!?!?!

Seriously.. some people just don't know when to quit bitching.

OK, who recruited all these shitty players then?

Regardless of what has happened thus far, it is unacceptable to claim scUM will "kick our ass" during this week...

If you plan on being negative all week, you need to do us all a favor and just lurk for the week.

This week is a special week where ANYTHING can happen...

If you aren't with that...go away

I actually liked the new look on Offense. It was indeed a new formation and I think it took Troy and the rest of the Offense a half to start feeling comfortable with it.

I like the idea of trying to use TG much like USC uses Reggie Bush. I think they have similar talents. You want to get the ball into the hands of your playmakers and this affords us the best opportunity to do so.

The TD play to Holmes was sweet, as were the two nice receptions to Hall and Gonzo.

This formation makes us much less predictable and the option does indeed give TS the option of keeping it or pitching out. We got nice gains doing both. I hope we use it a lot against scUM and I think if we can keep from turning the ball over we can at least be competitive, if Salley and Fox make it back for The GAME.

IMHO, If we don't turn the ball over 4 times, we win the game.

GO BUCKS! :osu:
Beat scUM!!!

OSUGrad,

Is anything possible, sure, the world could end tomorrow, The stock market could crash to absolute 0, but it is not very likely.

Being realistic, and honest shouldn't be discouraged no matter how much it bugs you personally. I am not a coach of this team, and I am not a player, so I can look at things rationally and keep peoples hopes realistic. I honestly hope we can just make it a good game instead of a blow out.

I think we are all hoping for them to do the near impossible, and God knows we owe them a couple, but if you look at where we are and where they are, it is nearly impossible to believe we can pull this off. We would have to play a perfect game, which I don't believe we are capable of, and they would have to play like shit, which is highly unlikely. If both of those things don't happen, those dirty bags of shit will win, period. I just don't see any other way to see it, and I don't see any reason why that feeling shouldn't be able to be expressed.

Do you have a reason? Do you think a positive point of view on a message board is going to make a difference in the game?

It takes more the a positive attitude. At some point you must tackle, block, catch, run, play mistake free football, rush the quarter back, and we seem unable to do any of that right now well as a team. They however are having no trouble.

The players and coaches should not feel like I expressed I will agree, but as a fan, their is a point where you have to admidt, their just is no way it's going to happen. Why set yourself up for disappointment again. Basketball starts Monday, we got a bowl game which should be winable, and we should be better next season with the experience behind us. Motivation durring the off season should be high.

Who exactly has scUM dominated on the road this year? Indiana played them pretty tough in the first half before losing 35-14. They lost at Notre Dame 28-20. They squeaked past Purdue 16-14. They beat a bad Illinois team on the road 30-19. They have a true freshmen starting at quarterback and running back. The game is being played in the Horseshoe. Nothing will prepare those two for the pressure they will be up against Saturday. Should scUM be favored? Yes, but there is absolutely no reason to think the Buckeyes can't win this game.
