but it is time to pull ourselves together and get ready for the greatest week in college football.
Some of you here are currently students at OSU. Hopefully you realize that the above quote isn't hyperbole. As an alumnus, I think back to the many scUM weeks I experienced while at OSU, and there really is no other week quite like it. Nothing comes close. As long as there are 105,000 loud, supporting, crazed, and Holbrook-be-damned, alcohol fueled crazed fans in the 'Shoe on Saturday, this team can win The Game. Being a part of that in the 'Shoe is something special as it culminates the entire week. It has been 13 years now since I experienced this week as a student, but the feelings do not go away with the passage of time nor the distance from Columbus.

Heed what Grad says. The greatest rivalry game in sports is preceeded by the greatest week in college football. Fucking enjoy it for what it is and embrace it for what it is. And if you are at The Game Saturday, do whatever you can to help support the team and help them attain the goal of assuring that this is yet another year where a rose does not grow in Michigan.

While I agree with osugrad21 that we have to be upbeat this week and that we have to expect the players will find motivation to spank the weasles, I also agree with what Bob Davies and others have said- our O- does not have a base identitiy yet; something to hang it's hat on as a base play. We are not consistent at anything yet and that troubles me going into the week that we should need that most.
All of the experimenting should have been done in the first two games. This team will have to reach down and gel quickly to be effective for 60 minutes offensively and to keep the D on the bench to rest for us to do well.

Now, a couple of special teams scores may help.............. :wink2:

If OSU continues to play the soft zone and have the corners 12 to 15 yards off the recievers then it is going to be a long day. I would rather get beat on a 80 yard pass than get beat on 8 10 yard passes, at least we have time to get the ball for awhile. Purdon't showed that if your are willing to give 8-10 yards at a time they are willing to take it. This didn't just start at Purdue, it has been going on all year.

It also helps that the DB assigned the deep third of the field, plays the deep third of the field. Also, if you are a blitzing CB, playing the QB helps defend against the throwback to the area you vacate. Another factor is catching the ball when you make a good break on it.

Offensively OSU must have a couple of power running plays to be able to score TDs in the red zone. A couple of plays the defense must respect to make a bootleg or option effective. Running the QB and reverses in the middle of the field is OK but if the defense doesn't respect your inside running game, the FG, or TO, is going to be the most common outcome of a red zone series.

I'd guess they were manned up down by the GL...that puts it on either the free or one of the LBs

Troy seemed to be the man for the last few weeks .... but this game the wheels came off ... he reminded me of the old joke about the 500 pound gorilla hitting the golf ball with a driver for a 500 yard drive ...... when asked how he putts ...the answer was .... just like he drives.
Troy had no touch on the short passes .... he zings it in there
And for those fans that say he gives us an added diminsion with his feet .....
I don't know what diminsion we're talking about, because he sure didn't rum for many first down's when I was watching.

This brings up my question .....
What is our problem ..... we have two elite 11 QBs that can't get the job done.
We have two receivers and more that are supposed to be All American caliber,
but we can't put together the passing game.
We don't have a running game.
So is it the O line or the coaches.
This is an O line that was supposed to be getting better each year as we brought in the recruits that we have wanted year after year for the last 4 years.
Are we injured at every position ???
Did the loss of all the grad assistants that went to Cincy play some part in this.
Did Dantonio take all of our top assistants with him.
After the NC did the organiztion to recruit, hire coaches and coach the QB's leave Tress after last year.
Did the loss of those 14 to the NFL really hurt us that bad.

My take is that we just had an off year and that parts of all of these things contributed a little to the whole ball of wax.
I don't see how we beat scUM this week.
However, I am rolling out the Michigan Sucks Banner,
cleaning off my Scarlet & Grey Sneakers, and loading up on Cheetos and Diet
Coke for the Big Game. Hell, I may even look up Milli's receipe for Black & Tans.
I just hope we can finish off a great recruiting year, and win our Bowl Game.
The bowl practice and Spring Ball will make us all that much more optimistic,
and we can fire up the GO Bucks and OH .... IO's for 2005.

My hope for the scUM game is that the Special Teams are REALLY SPECIAL.
A few returns and a big pass play or two and we can Tressle Ball our way to a win. Anyway ... Michigan still sucks....

GO BUCKS
