Hey just so you know, some guys did the same thing down here for Adrian Peterson at ou. I know they got into some hot water with the NCAA. Not sure what the outcome was, but you may want to investigate that.

Actually, IIRC, they didn't get into any hot water with the NCAA because they didn't fall under the domain of the NCAA. I don't think the kid that did the site was even on OU student...just a fan. The NCAA can't do jack shit to anyone about a website which focuses on a current college player unless the player and/or his school directly profit/benefit from it.

In fact, here is the website.

Not to be contrary, because I don't know the specifics of the rule... but there was an issue with the McNutt for Heisman T-shirts even though Richard was not involved with them because they were making a profit by using his name. Remember, the NCAA wants to license products too.... My point is... be absolutely sure before you accept any money.... As a matter of fact, I imagine the Ohio State Compliance Office would probably be more than happy to answer any questions you might have.

Yeah, it had to do with making a profit off a player and also elevating him to a clebrity status. One of the NCCA's recent goals has been to try and bring the student-atheletes down on level with the common student. With their changes to recruiting and what not.

If its done w/o the school's knowledge I don't see the problem. But you never know with the NCAA.

I think what iambrutus meant by contributing to his site was helping out with input (graphics, information, help with code, etc.). Even if some folks were to give him money to start up the site, it wouldn't be like iambrutus was making a profit...although I myself would steer clear of asking for any monetary donations, just for reasons you brought up.

Make sure you at least list where the images are from that you have "stolen" and posted on your site once you do so. I would definitely steer clear of posting scans of magazine covers as these guys have done, but that's just my opinion. Definitely make sure to give Davidson credit for any photos, and be ready for him to ask you not to post them. Also steer clear of stuff like the Leinhart/AD banner they ripped off of espn.com

Overall good luck, just giving you some tips on what to avoid (tho most of the time no one cares if you do)

With all the talented graphics folks we have on this site, I'm sure that iambrutus should have no problems in getting top-notch graphics designed for his site. As for Davidson's photos, as long as he posts them with Davidson's disclaimer in the photo intact, plus a general acknowledgement on the main page and/or pages his images are on, shouldn't be much of a problem.

When I was in the dorm we made sweatshirts and stuff for our program and Compliance wanted us to PAY to use the name Ohio State on our sweatshirts, even though it was a dorm program. What sense does it make for OSU to charge OSU to use the name OSU, fuck those guys
