Next BP Event: Need Ideas!

ScarletInMyVeins

Tanned Fat Looks Better
Okay, with the success of the Poker Tournament I figured it wouldn't be a bad idea to get the ball rolling on the next BP event. I have a couple of ideas to throw out there but would really like to hear what everyone else has in mind. It doesn't necessarily have to be a fund raising type of event, but by all means can be one.

Here are the ideas that I have so far:

Another poker tournament - everyone had a good time and we raised a lot of money. Might get old after a while.

4th of July party - Would be family friendly. Would possibly need a large park. Still needs more consideration.

Theme Park (Wyandotte Lake, Kings Island, Cedar Point) - Could be an expensive weekend. May have to stay in a hotel. Would be a blast.

At the moment, I'm leaning more toward the 4th of July party but am completely open to more ideas. I wanted to get another thread started as soon as possible with the hopes that more people would attend the next function if they had more time to plan their schedules.

Okay, so I've said enough for now. Can someone tack this to the top please?

Ready, set, discuss!

All good ideas but I think you found out this weekend what I predicted, no-shows can be a big problem.

Look at the golf-outing, same problems are happening.

I mean let 's be honest, "Hey honey, I'm going to this party with a bunch of people I know from the internet but have never met." I kind of got this reaction when I went to meet Mr. Incredible for a beer awhile back.

There's no accountability b/c mainly the only way we know people on here is through this site, not personally. So skipping out at the last minute doesn't really put too much egg on that person's face.

If I was you, I'd post a list of the names of people who "no-showed" and we can all ding them for backing out.

Also, how many fundraisers can you hold? I would love to donate more money but donated what I could afford, after awhile people will get "Fundraisered to death."

Not trying to be a party pooper here just trying to keep it real.

The next thing doesn't have to be a fundraiser. There were only 5 members that backed out of the poker thing, so that wasn't bad at all. I think everyone is getting to the point where they feel comfortable with everyone else. I personally knew 7 members that attended the poker thing.

Actually, we only had 5 no show... and 2 of them well, we knew would most likely happen... things happen in life... I can say though, for the large group we had, everyone got along exceedingly well... had a great time... if people can't or don't want to continue fundraising that is certainly their perrogative.. I think (and I could be totally wrong) SIMV was trying to say something along the lines of, "We all had a great time, got along well, lets do a group get-together thing again sooner rather than later" doesn't have to be a fundraiser...

so, take your party poopness elsewhere :tongue2:

BP weekend at PIB would rock, but also be the most expensive. I'm still surprised that more people aren't interested in the golf outing. Fourth of July isn't good for me, and Cedar Point wouldn't work for me unless you want to do it on June 10th since I will already be there that day. Just getting people to meet at a bar somewhere (preferably on the east side) would be a good start. I'm down at Buckeye Lake almost every weekend during the summer.

I would agree with the 4th of July thing, we could reserver space at a park but we will have to get to it quickly or they will all fill up. The problem I see with it though is that most folks already have a family thing going on the 4th, or just an anual party that they attend. I know I did until they got divorced a couple of years ago. I don't know where everyone lives, but for the folks I do know I would think Darby would be pretty convenient, and with that (at a park not neccessarily Darby they already have grills there so there would be no lugging of the grill). But that is just my opninion.

Perhaps in conjunction with a July 4 picnic or as a separate entity, a softball game? Not too much equipment required and I'm sure Scooter could bring his daughter and her team along to kick our collective asses. :tongue2:

Also, rather than poker, could try a euchre night or just a general "card-game" night. Possible snag with a regular card game is trying to find a regular place. I'm sure Paul's dad doesn't want his place to smell like a bar all of the time, although I'm not sure why not.

Hey... since someone mentioned getting together at a bar, I figured I'd throw this out there and see how much interest there would be...

A friend of mine owns a pub... it's up on Polaris Parkway in Lewis Center... so might be a little out of the way for some of you. However, to drum up business on Monday nights, he's thinking of having guest bartenders. I was thinking of working a Monday night and having BP night... and, yeah... it would be a fundraiser, as I'd be donating all tips to the Spring Drive. But... to all of you, it's just doing something you might do anyway... meeting some people for a drink... and generously tipping the bar princess.

So... questions... would anyone come have a beer on a Monday night? It wouldn't have to be a super late night... you could even come earlier and make dinner plans out of it. The pub has a selection of sammiches and bar food...

Anyway, I think I'm gonna do it... just need to talk to him and pick a date. Probably will be some Monday in May, but probably not next week. So, the 15th or the 22nd most likely... and if only four of you show up, and two of you are actually me... that's okay. :)

I like the softball idea, but not on the 4th.

I might be alone on this but the 4th is when I like to really do Pyrotechnics.

Sadly, that means I'm outside the State of Ohio where it is legal to shoot rockets and mortars with absolutely no concern about johnny law getting on our case.

Ideas then -

Its a football site, so what about the Hall of Fame game? (Or do we want to wait for a "Buckeye" rich HOF entry class?)

Peach's bar connection at Polaris could work out, modifying that idea - if the bar has good pool tables or dart boards that makes for a great night out.

Here is one that AKAK can jump on - Night at the Races? Beulah Park up your way, or River Downs nearer the Queen City.

No pool tables, but there are a couple of dart boards (and a standing challenge from me to anyone out there to a game of cricket... TimBuck2... you wanna lose to a girl again?), and there is a fussball table. And beer... lots of beer... and what else do you need, really?
