Next Generation Console News: Xbox One, PS4, Wii U

If they want to go the not being able to sell my games route I'll either quit playing video games all together or switch to PC. Even though I'd still be filling M$ pockets w/ money if I went the PC route.

I use to claim i'd never own another game system since the super Nintendo, that the computer was so much better... but then if you look at game development for PC vs consoles... Consoles its pretty much a guarantee that your gonna get the best graphics possible with little or no lag. PC on the other hand... its well do you have the latest graphics card release? Can your monitor handle the refresh rate needed.. i gave up on computers about $150 or more every year on a new graphics card to try to keep up...(not even mentioning CPUs before intel's latest I series)

besides with the hacker community... you know these restrictions wont stand for long.

This is always such a major myth with PC's. My 4 year old pc can play any game out there still and with better graphics than any console. I simply can't play every game at the highest setting, yet the settings I can play at are still better than any console. Consoles rarely have games in 1080p even though they may advertise it as 1080p.

Of course I also have a newer computer where I can play at super high settings, but my older pc can play them just fine. It was my choice to upgrade, but I didn't have to just to be able to play a game.

BTW..."can your monitor handle the refresh rate needed," huh? The only thing you need for that is if you want to play 3d games which requires 120Hz. Yet that is a very, very limited market and no game that I know of requires it (plus no console is going to offer that kind of 3d gaming anyway).

The only thing with a gaming pc that I can think of that really required an upgrade is if you still had a DX9 card which are 6+ years old, and that is only for a handful of games that require DX10 (like BF3).

If you bought a 8800GT close to 5 years ago for $200 you can still play every game out there. You might have to put settings at less that 1080p for a handful of games, but even then it will still be better than any console. Same thing with processors. Even a core 2 duo from 5 years ago with be fine for gaming. Same with the rest of the computer components.

How much better can the games actually get in regards to "next gen?" What can they really do other than upgrade the consoles to be more computer like? Graphics are already top notch in my IMO. I'll stick with my PS3 for as long as I can.

Here is an example of what next gen can do. This is not a pre rendered cut scene. This is real time rendering (which means this is what gameplay could look like). I believe they used 3 GTX580's in order to run this (which by the time of the next consoles will be similar power to what they will have with 1 GPU). Watch it in 1080p or whatever your top resolution is.

It makes anything on today's consoles look like crap. Plus you have to realize that not all games on today's consoles that are truly 1080p, and even less that are 1080p and 60fps.

This is damn near the exact setup (8800GT and Core 2 Duo) I have. I can play Skyrim on the lowest settings, but installing visual mods have made the game look 200% better. I haven't tried any recent FPS's, because I don't really play those anymore to begin with. From what I've experienced PC games have been cheaper, by at least $10, on release day as well.

wow. I can't imagine playing something that looked that good. I also can't imagine the pricetag that goes along with it

That's pretty inexpensive considering what Ive seen people spend ( including myself)

i was just trying to play on a 19inch monitor (1280 x 1024) didn't need anything too too fancy... just got to be to expensive in general

no, they woulda done it at E3

Heard it's something with buying a company maybe (Hulu?)

Verizon Fios stuff, and maybe Windows 8...but definitely won't be gaming related

Gotcha. So that means no new console until 2013 E3, and then not shipping until Holiday 2014??

Boooooooo.
