The Buckeyes' vocal defensive leader is already making people smile at the next level.

One of Buckeye Nation's favorite Silver Bullet is headed to the NFL. Safety Tyvis Powell -- and self-proclaimed father to Cardale Jones -- is fresh off a good showing at the Senior Bowl, and has his second chance to make an impression on scouts.

Never one to let his personality stay in the shadows, Powell was a vocal leader at the Senior Bowl, often lobbying to head coach Jason Garrett of the Dallas Cowboys. Despite only being a three-year player, he earned his degree early, making him eligible to compete in the game reserved for seniors.

Powell recorded 195 tackles (112 solo), nine passes defended and eight interceptions in his three-year career with Ohio State; he also became known as the player to come through in the clutch for the Buckeyes, most notably picking off a Hail Mary attempt by Alabama in the 2014 College Football Playoffs. He went on to earn Defensive MVP honors in the College Football Playoff Championship Game against Oregon, and honorable mention All-Big Ten honors from coaches and media for his 2015 season.

Projection

Ahead of the combine, Powell was projected to go in the Round 3 or 4 of the NFL Draft with some experts citing concerns about his physicality and consistency. While he has some work to do, his reputation for making big plays when it matters most will help his cause with a lot of teams.
