More than half of Vancouver Canucks' players test positive for COVID-19, source says

More than half of the players on the Vancouver Canucks have tested positive for COVID-19, a source confirmed to ESPN. Additional names are expected to be added to the team's COVID-19 protocol list besides the 14 who appeared on Saturday.

Some players are symptomatic, and according to several sources there are a few who are in "rough shape." One Canucks player told ESPN he hadn't heard from a team representative about any players going to the hospital, but he had heard of teammates receiving IV treatments for severe dehydration, presumably at their homes. A source told ESPN that at least three Canucks coaches have tested positive for the virus as well. In addition, many family members of players have tested positive and are experiencing symptoms, according to sources.

"Fatigue, dehydration, the symptoms are intense," one agent of a Canucks player told ESPN. "It's knocked a lot of guys out. Some can't even get out of bed."

A source confirmed to ESPN on Saturday night that the more infectious P.1 variant of COVID-19, which was first found in Brazil, has been found among several of the cases affecting the Canucks, the first known cases of the new variant among NHL teams this year. That news was first reported by Canada's Postmedia. The Vancouver region has recently become a hotspot for the P.1 variant.

Stunning numbers: Patrick Marleau NHL record edition

Teal-Town-USA.png

On Monday night against the Golden Knights, Sharks forward Patrick Marleau played in his 1,768th regular season game, breaking the NHL record that had been held by Gordie Howe. That is a stunning number all its own. So let us take a look at some more stunning numbers from Marleau’s career.

• It is not just the fact that Marleau has played in a record number of regular season games. He has also appeared in 195 Stanley Cup playoff games, a mark that places him among the top-25 in NHL history. Add that total to his regular season total and he has appeared in 1,963 NHL games. Assuming he plays in all of the remaining Sharks games this season that would put him well over the 1,970 mark.

• Marleau has played in that number of games over a 23-year career that goes all the way back to the 1997-98 season. His career touched four different decades (1990s, 2000s, 2010s, 2020s). That takes an enormous amount of dedication, durability, and luck. He has appeared in every game in 12 of his 23 seasons.

• He has appeared in at least 80 games 16 times. He has never missed more than six games in a season in his entire NHL career. Had it not been for the 2004-05 lockout and three shortened seasons (2019-20, 2020-21, as well as the 2012-13) his games played total would be even higher. We could be talking another 140-150 regular season games on his total games played.

That's about the least Rangers statement I've ever heard.....so it makes sense that 2 heads rolled for it. Heaven forbid you stick up for your players against a fucking goon. They play again tonight....I'll be shocked if anybody even looks at Wilson funny.

Yesterday after the Preds beat Carolina in double OT (yeah, I know a lot of you are Blue Jackets fans and really don't care about anything Preds related) Luke Kunin gave the stick he used to score the winning goal to a young fan. THAT was the most impressive highlight of the playoffs so far.
And it was also one of the most exciting hockey game I've ever been to.
