Nick Saban (ex-HC Alabama Crimson Tide)

Never thought I'd hear Alabama football referred to as a sleeping giant.

Well, you have a program with great tradition, resources and a large fanbase that has been pretty much dormant for over a decade (Good, not great, season here and there). Pretty similar to USC prior to Petey's arrival in LA. Hence, "sleeping giant". Don't kid yourself, Saban is a great college coach and has the ability to make the Tide competitive pretty quick.
My read on that was that it's the "sleeping" part he finds surreal, not the "giant" part.

I listened to this all AM on the radio.
LSU fans are PO'd as he is coming back to the SEC.
It has been said he hated dealing with the pro players and his family was not happy down in little cuba.

Alabama has potential but he will face the strong in state rivalry that was not here at LSU.

Just think if he stinks and gets canned in 4 years, he will still be sitting pretty financially.

LSU has a reason to be pissed off. Thats kind of like Joe Torre leaving the Yanks to coach a college baseball team and then him coming to coach the Red Sox.

But i think Saban only did it for the money and not believing in the Dolphins team. I hate those people that do that.

Here's something I'm wondering...

As a high school prospect, would you really take Saban seriously, knowing that he might leave at any given moment? He's become a mercenary...

Heres what i have to say about that.

This is not me, but as a player playing under Nick Saban, and he bails out on you, a player cant really do anything about. What that does to a team though, is take their confidence level down, just like it should do to the dolphins especially because they were in a rebuilding form. As a player you cant do anything if he resigns so you are really stuck in the middle.

The whole situation is kind of sad IMO. I think Saban could have been a really great coach--ultimately with legendary status--if he'd have just stayed in one place (i.e. LSU). Instead, he's lost a ton of credibility which will show through in how his players respond to him.

He made the same mistake Spurrier made.

Here is Saban's Collegiate record
Team Overall Conference Bowl Game Toledo 9-2 7-1 None Michigan St. 6-5-1 4-3-1 Independence Michigan St. 6-6 5-3 Sun Michigan St. 7-5 4-4 Aloha Michigan St. 6-6 4-4 None Michigan St. 9-2 6-2 Citrus^ LSU 8-4 5-3 Peach LSU 10-3 6-3^^ Sugar LSU 8-5 5-3 Cotton LSU 13-1 8-1^^ Sugar^^^ LSU 9-3 6-2 Capital One
I think this adds up to 91-38 Not exactly up there with the top echelon

True, but his record was fast improving at LSU, and the LSU teams from the last few years (including this year's) are further evidence of the kind of future he would have had at that program.

I'm not saying he's the greatest ever, and I certainly don't put him on the level of JT, but I think he really had something there at LSU--and he blew it big time.
