It seems this will be an area of interest for tOSU in '05- I thought we could track some of the recruits throughout the season

Here is a link that focuses on NJ recruiting

'05 NJ recruits

Rahmir Cottman
6-3/170 WR/DB Red Bank Reg.

If Randy Moss has a clone - then this guy is him!
Wears #84!
Cottman was one of the top WR's at the
2003 Athletes Edge Tri State Football Challenge!
IN 2003: COTTMAN CAUGHT 30 PASSES FOR MORE THAN 550 yards AND 6 TD's.
Has great speed(4.5 forty) for his size ... and awesome jumping abilty 32 inch vertical - 9.5 feet in the broad-jump! Should be something to see for years to come with Sheard (above).
COTTMAN WAS UNCONTAINABLE IN 2003 -
HE HAS OUT-JUMPED AND OUT-RAN MANY DEFENDERS

Very fast and strong!
Has very good instincts and is very tough.
As a DB: he has great closing speed and superb tackling-ability!
As a RB and Returner: he sees the entire field and finds seams - with a burst!
Is also a great student!
2003 stats: Had 60 tackles, 3 forced-fumbles, 1 recovery, 2 INTS, 14 pass break-ups and a 99 yard kick-return. Named ALL CONF., DIVISION AND COUNTY IN 2003!

Here is some info on Rashawn Jackson

http://ohiostate.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=24168

http://www.psuplaybook.org/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=431

rashawnjackson.jpg

Rashawn Jackson, a 6'2", 250 lb., 4.6/40 linebacker/running back from Jersey City (St. Peters Prep), NJ is already getting some interest from programs around the region. Considered on of New Jersey's top junior prospects, he also boasts a 35-inch vertical leap and a powerful running stride.

Although Rashawn (left, St. Peter's) is featured in the St. Peter's offense primarily as a running back, along with his star teammate (who PSU is also interested in) Mike Brown, he size pretty much classifies him as a fullback. Don't be fooled though, since he has impressive speed when he breaks open a run. In fact he wrapped up this past season with 91 carries for 938 yards and 25 touchdowns. That is an amazing 10.3 yards per carry! Quite an impressive statistic for a 250 lb. back.
Selected as the league's offensive player of the year, Rashawn was also honored as a 2003 HCIAA Football Coaches' Association All-County Team selection. He is rated by many as not only one the top prospects in New Jersey, but also one of the best juniors in the Northeastern region.

Aside from Penn State, which has reportedly offered Rashawn, he is receiving interest from programs like Virginia, Rutgers, Virginia Tech and Maryland and this list is expected to grown as time passes.

It is not clear at this early stage which position teams are looking at Rashawn for. There is a strong belief that he could excel at either linebacker or in the backfield. Stay tuned.

Jackson is a beast and I hope Hazell can help us down the road with him. At 6'2" and 250 you have to wonder if he might not end up on the D-line down the road. As much as I like the defensive ends on the roster I'd love too see us land a couple more speed rusher types to come off the edge. Maybe one of them can be Jackson?

another NJ prospect for us to keep our eye on is Michael Ray Garvin RB/DB -Don Bosco HS, NJ 1st team All State as a junior

Garvin won the 2004 Combine MVP award for defensive players over Jamario

Measurements from the combine

HT: 5'-7.5"
WT: 172
40: 4.45, 4.45, 4.37, 4.4 (ran it four times) (the best at the combine for juniors DB's)
Bench Press: 22 Reps (also the best amone junior db's)
Shuttle: 4.37, 4.33

Even though he is short he is very powerful and fast being the defensive MVP

2004 Reebok Defensive MVP

Michael Ray Garvin, DB, Ramsey, NJ
In what was one of the greatest groups of talent ever to come through the U.S. Army National Combine, Michael set the bar as he beat out the nation's top talent for the Reebok Defensive MVP. There were athletes like California's Ray Maualuga, Ohio's Jamario O'Neal, and Nevada's Ryan Reynolds all pushing for honor of the Reebok Defensive MVP. Michael definitely turn a lot of heads as he broke onto the national scene as the top defender at the U.S. Army National Combine. Pound for pound Michael was right behind Marcus Shavers for the U.S. Army National Combine Super Athlete honor. Garrett Shea, Football Director at SportsLink stated "Michael comes from a great program, Don Bosco Prep, who was ranked as the #2 team in the country this season. Garvin is a powerful, disciplined, and explosive athlete who made a strong statement as one of the nation's premier players next fall. Michael showcased both tremendous skill and athletic ability in the football skill drills and the combine testing portion of the U.S. Army National Combine. Michael showed the country why he deserves to be regarded as one America's top high school football players next season."

He has the NJ state record for the 100M as a Freshman at 10.98 (as a Freshman!!!!!)

http://www.monmouth.com/~scullion/records/bclass.htm

Lemming lists him as an early top 10 junior and claims his favorite schools are Cryami, BC, Nebraska, scUM, tOSU but Insiders and Rivals do not list tOSU as one of the teams he is interested in.

Cottman highlights from last year...

030p5_lg.jpg

http://atlanticville.gmnews.com/News/2003/1219/Sports/030.html

They began to focus on the combination of Sheard-to-Cottman (a combination that worked nine times for 136 yards

http://www.injersey.com/app2001/story/0,21133,813862,00.html

The game-winning drive started with a 20-yard punt return by Joey Wilson. Starting from the Pinelands' 27 with 4:29 to play, the Red Bank touchdown came on a 20-yard fade from quarterback Keyron Sheard to Rahmir Cottman. Cottman, who has a 37-inch vertical leap, beat two defenders for the ball and fell into the end zone.

"I know nobody is going to jump higher than Rahmir, so I just lobbed it up there and let him go get it," Sheard said.

"I knew the safety was there," Cottman said. "I went up and got it."

http://www.injersey.com/app2001/story/0,21133,829619,00.html

Red Bank, on the other hand, went for a slant when the offense took over for the first time on its own 10-yard line. Quarterback Keyron Sheard connected with wide receiver Rahmir Cottman for a 90-yard touchdown pass before four minutes had ticked off the clock, putting the Bucaneers well on their way to a 34-14 Shore Conference Federal Division victory.

Pictures 1 and 8 are of Cottman

Hopefully Mr. Hazell can help us out with this guy. He does look a little thin but he is a big target with great hands and speed.

Cherry Hill (NJ)
Camden Catholic
Wide Receiver

Height: 6-foot-2
Weight: 190 pounds
40-yard dash: 4.5 seconds
2003 Stats: 48 receptions for 625 yards and seven scores on offense with four interceptions and 73 tackles on defense.

Bio Notes: Wilson was named all-conference, all-parochial and second-team all-South Jersey as a junior.

Schools in the Running: Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Rutgers, Virginia

Wilson claims that tOSU is about to offer him in the latest Rivals update. He likes tOSU, Va, PSU and RU. He will visit tOSU this summer. He compares himself to Chris Gamble- he is playing offense and defense in HS.

Coach Hazell was recruiting him when he was at RU- so you have to assume he is the coach recruiting him with tOSU.
