DE Tyler Friday (Official Thread)

Ever heard of Jack Tatum? SMH

Who? Sounds like someone Tressel or Cooper missed on, but that is off the cuff.

Or Malcolm Jenkins.

I almost brought that up because MJ was one of my favorite Buckeyes of all time and still is. But MJ was a 3* guy that didn't even have an offer from any team in a power 5 conference. He camped at OSU, we offered before anyone else did, and he was a star here. And Apple was a guy that was basically a Tressel recruit that committed to UFM, I will say that. We basically batted about zero on national NJ recruits prior to UFM and LJ Sr., although there was an anomaly here and there. Really hoping Friday continues to grow our presence in NJ because thre is a ton of talent there.

RAMSEY, N.J. -- Tyler Friday, one of the top uncommitted defensive linemen in the nation, will announce his choice during a ceremony at 2 p.m. at Don Bosco.

And for the No. 3 defensive tackle in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, choosing between Michigan, Ohio State and Alabama was not an easy endeavor.

The 6-foot-3, 263-pound Friday said he built strong relationships with each of the coaching staffs, and his official visits to each school were huge and made his decision more difficult.

"Originally, it was supposed to be Saturday because I felt comfortable committing this week," Friday said. "Then, I realized my last name was Friday, so it was only right if I did it on Friday."

Michigan has strong ties with New Jersey, particularly with the parochial schools in the north.

"Michigan is like a New Jersey pipeline," Friday said. "I have a lot of guys I know there. With the atmosphere, I feel welcome every time I step on campus there. I communicate with those coaches pretty much all the time. Me going to Michigan, I feel like it would just be like home."

With Ohio State, defensive line coach Larry Johnson is key.

"Larry Johnson is overwhelming," Friday said. "Every time we speak, he introduces something new to me. Being under his wing, that could be great. He has a great plan for me."

Alabama entered the picture a bit later than Michigan and Ohio State, but the Crimson Tide made an impressive push.

"Alabama, they are who they are," Friday said. "They just won a national championship. When (coach Nick) Saban comes calling for you, it's hard to say 'no.' Just listening to what they had to say, even though they did come late in the recruiting process, I was blown away on my official visit. I saw a lot of new things and I was really attracted to it."

Tyler Friday set to announce his decision this Friday
One of Alabama’s top targets is set to come off the board this Friday in 4-star defensive tackle Tyler Friday out of Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.). Friday will announce his decision at 2 p.m. ET.

Friday, the nation’s No. 3 defensive tackle in the 2018 class, will either commit to Alabama, Michigan or Ohio State. Barring a last-minute change, I don’t expect Alabama to be the choice, according to a source close to the Tide and a source close to the Ohio State program. Both sources expect the Buckeyes to be the choice.

The 6-foot-3, 263-pound prospect took an official visit to Tuscaloosa last month, and, at the time, he said those three programs would “definitely” be in the mix for him when he made his decision.

Friday said shortly after his first-ever visit that Alabama was more relevant in his recruitment than what it was prior to his trip. Since then, the coaching staff has made a big push to get Friday on board. Defensive line coach Karl Dunbar was in New Jersey last week and the staff has been in constant communication with him.

It doesn’t seem like it’s going to be enough, though.

Alabama signed 4-star defensive linemen Stephon Wynn Jr. and Christian Barmore during the early signing period. The Tide also have a commitment from 4-star defensive lineman Bobby Brown.

The team would like to add at least one more defensive lineman in this class, and it has its eyes on 3-star defensive end Malik Langham out of Huntsville, Ala., who will take an official visit to Tuscaloosa this weekend.

It’s possible Langham decides to commit to Alabama this weekend, either silently or publicly.
